Help needed downloading updates in Africa

Hi All, I am a missionary in Africa and my internet connection is slow and every now and again drops out. I have an 114mb download trying to download but before it hits 100% the connection drops, when the connection is reconnected Logos starts downloading at the beginning again! This is quite frustrating... the furthest I have got is 89%. I know 70mb is the program update and the rest books (NIV2011 etc). I am able to download larger files which use download managers i.e. pause the download when the connection drops, or ftp.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

I have managed to download the latest logos4.dmg (I'm on Mac) but don't know if it will mess up my present install if I try to run it as an update??

Any advice would be helpful... thanks

Hello Jonty, if my understanding of how the "Update Resources" command works is correct the following might help. Type "Update Resources" into the Command Box and hit Enter and Logos will hopefully download only the book files. Then next time it tries to do a general update it will only bring down the program update. By breaking the download into two pieces they might complete before the connection dies. Blessings, Tim.

Hi Tim,

Thanks for your response. That method also occurred to me... I turned automatic updates off, then did command: update resources. It then proceeded to tell me it had found 114mb of resources to download! So looks like there is no difference between 'update now' and 'update resources'.

Jonathan, I'm sorry that didn't work. I wonder if there is a way to disable either program or book updates - perhaps someone else may be able to help here. May God bless you in your missionary work. Tim.

If the updates are the books listed here then it would be best to hide them ie. drag them one at a time to Hidden Resources in Tools | Program Settings and restart L4. Only the new resources should download and you can then unhide the others to get the updates. But keep Auto Download Updates = NO.

OTOH if you update to 4.2a Beta 5 the updates become patches eg. 7.4 MB instead of 68 MB. Also, with Auto Download = NO you get to see the size of the download (in my PC version!).

No it won't it, it will do install and take program to latest version. Then the update should only download new/updated resources which will be smaller download.

OTOH if you update to 4.2a Beta 5

But should keep in mind that that will (on Mac version) totally reindex the whole Logos installation (all resources) and lock person into beta version, they cannot 'upgrade' back to release version. They would have to wait for 4.2 to be released before they got back to stable installation.
