Where are my older collections?

This may sound silly but this past week I wanted to update some of my collections and do some work getting all my books grouped in various collections. I went into Tools>Collections but when I tried to open a few of my old collections to find out what books were in what collection there was nothing. to open.

My old collections are still in my program and they are still working fine. I just can't open anyone of the ones I put in when I first got Logos4 .

The reason I needed to open them and edit the older collections was because I really didn't have a good understanding on how to make collections up, so some of the older collections don't really have the right books in them.

Do you mean that the collection name was still there but no contents in the collection or that the name was missing?

When you say old collections, do you mean the very ones you can no longer find anything in or other ones? I'm a little confused.

Are you possibly trying to open them from the wrong place? After you open the collections from Tools>Collections a window should open to an unnamed collection. If you click on the open beside it you should have a drop down list of all your collections. Go to the wiki for pictures.

I meant the name of the collection was missing, so I am unable to open it up to edit it.

"Old Collections" are the ones that I placed in Logos 4 when I first started using L4. Nothing to do with Libronix.

No problem with finding where they should be, I went to Tools>Collections>Open where the drop down list opened but there was nothing listed .

They aren't found there.

Open "Collections" from the Tools menu. When the "Unnamed Collection" shows up , look above that name for the "Open" button. You'll find your collections there.

I think Rich misunderstood. Yes, when you click on the word Open in the Collections pane it should list your collections.

Unfortunately I fear that your collections have been lost. It has happened to me but I had another instance of Logos on another computer where it didn't happen and I was able to recover from that installation. I can't explain how this happens as it was never explained to me. The Logos server is supposed to back these up.

You haven't moved any Logos 4 files on your own have you? Have these been missing since you started using the beta version?

I haven't moved any files but yes they startded missing after being on Beta.

As a last resort, you can look for the database that is supposed to contain these. In Win 7 it is here: C:\Users\{User Name}\AppData\Local\Logos4\Documents\{Random String}\ResourceCollectionManager There will be a file ResourceCollectionManager.db there. If is is of minimal size (0 or 1 KB) you don't have anything in it (which is what I'd expect). If that is the case all you can do w/o having a backup is to rebuild your collections by hand. If for some reason the .db file is of some size (more than a few KB) then something else is going on.

Going to the database finally did work for me. Thanks for the help I have rebuilt all new collections and everything is back like it should be! [:)]

That's good to hear. Well built collections are a real benefit in handling a large library.
