Why can't I order just a single volume?!

Why, WHy, WHy, Why, can't i order a single volume of a commentary I need? What is the rationale in the age of digital books for me to have to order an entire "set" or package for one single volume I need? This is very frustrating! The only place for some of your books is in a package and not separate. Please end this madness!

Dan, I am not a Logos employee, but from what I've been able to gather it is often not Logos' fault. The publishers they work with often tie their hands in how resources can be distributed. You are not alone in wanting to see this, but I believe in many cases they cannot 'unbundle' individual titles.

That has been my guess as well, but then why can I shoot to Amazon and buy them individually? This is what makes no sense to me. If I can purchase them one place individually, then certainly (my humble opinion) I should be able to purchase them individually on bible software.

It is worth telephoning and asking about this, although it won't do you any immediate good. Often products are unbundled after a certain period (say two years). But unbundling takes staff time in creating new web pages and licences, etc., so not every product eligible for unbundling as been unbundled. It's possible that a phone call from two or three people requesting the same resource might speed the process up.

As to why, one of the answers is that it's only by guaranteeing a certain level of sales that Logos and the publisher afford to bring books to market. Let's imagine a great book that is incredibly helpful and well-written, but not massively popular. The publishers want an electronic edition, but there's just not the revenue or demand for it. But if they bundle it with a more popular book, and reduce the price slightly, suddenly a lot more people are now willing to buy both books, and instead of only the popular book being made and sold, now its possible to bring both books to market. There are some losers, certainly, but (the argument goes) there are more winners.
