Find in Panel Behavior

While adding my own notes to logos I discovered an interesting behavior. If I start up my note panel and do an imediate "search in panel" option the search does not work. I need to click in the body of the panel first, then choose "search in panel" to get it to work correctly. Has anybody else had this type of issue?

You're talking about using Ctrl+F to find within a panel? Yes, the focus needs to be in the panel you want to search in. It's surprising that opening the note panel doesn't automatically put the focus there. It sounds like a bug to me. However I cannot reproduce it in the Windows current beta version. Are you running the Mac version? Or a different version on Windows? Or am I misunderstanding what you've done to see this behavior?

Yes, it is the Ctrl-F. I am on a 64bit Windows 7 Machine. I have tried this on my laptop and have the same issue. This one is very odd, one moment the find seemed to be working for this particular Note, now it is not working at all. I wonder if it is size related. I put a fair amount of text into this note. About a month worth of devotions from my professor. I have other notes that the find works perfect.

Yes, in fact I have had two notes open at the same time and the find works in one but not in the other. I still wonder if I am seeing a behavior based on the size of the note.

Now that said, if you do a find, is there a way to find the next occurance of the word or phrase you are looking for?

While searching through some other blogs I came across someone with the same problem. Looks like what I am seeing is exactly how they described the find in note to work. I have one giant note so the fact that it does not move to where the word is is because it is in the note if I understand the other blog correctly.

Statement made in other blog -

In your large notesfile do you have just one note or many?

All the Ctrl-F operation will do is filter the notes displayed in the notesfile to those which contain the search term - it won't actually highlight the search term or indicate where it is in any way.

So, if you just have one note, then the Ctrl-F won't do anything which could explain what you are seeing.

If you have many notes then I'm afraid I don't understand what you are seeing!

This is a weakness of the current way Find works in notes. I do wish it would find specific locations of text in the notes files, but I know of no plans to make it do that. It's something worth requesting.

In the meantime, the only workaround I can think of is to copy that text and paste it into some other software (such as Word) that has a Search function. Kind of cumbersome, but I do this in other situations where I've got some text somewhere (not from Logos) that I need to be able to search in.

Unless this behavior has changed i figure I am seeing the same thing.

Yes, in a resource. Just press Enter again, or click the "find next" down arrow next to the find box:

But as you've discovered, Ctrl+F / Find works differently in Notes (and Clippings). It just acts as a filter there, to show you which notes in the file contain the search term. It is built on the premise that most people will have large numbers of smaller notes within a larger Notes file. It doesn't work for people like you who have single large notes. Hopefully someday. It's been requested. I don't see it yet on UserVoice (the forum were users can vote for what features we want so Logos can gauge user interest and prioritize future work more easily), but perhaps you'd like to add it and see if you can drum up interest here among other users and get people to vote for it.
