I need help with using Hebrew word studies.

Hello everyone.

I am studying Genesis, and am now at Chapter 6: at the infamous Sons of God (SOGs)who went into the daughters of men (DOMs).

The study I am using gives the Cross References from JOB to support that the SOGs are angels.  I am aware of the 2 pain ideas, that the SOGs are angels or they are Sethites.  

SOGS, (bene elohim) truly are angels in Job.  I found a book on public domain I believe from 1854 that gives a list of scriptures in the OLD TESTAMENT that are "bene elohim" but are not translated out in the exact words Sons of God, but cleary are referring to men.

I am NOT an armchair theologian by any stretch of the imagination and I do not understand what morph, rivers, etc. are.  Can anyone tell me how I can do a Hebrew search that pulls up that same Hebrew phrase bene elohim in Gen 6 throughout the whole OT.  If I search Sons of God, it shows the Job versus, but I need the others.

Here is a clip of that book on public domain and some of the scriptures they give, but I want to learn how to do that using the tools on Logos.

I appreciate any help on this. 

And while I'm at it, allow me to gripe.  I hate that I can spend 600 on a program and then they want to charge me for the instruction manual.  I need the Logo's for dummy book if anyone has written it.  So, that's why I appeal to you.

    I am deeply aware of the many options for interpreting this passage and I will do my best to resist breaching the forum guidelines here.  :-)

    I'm no Hebrew Scholar, there are others here better equipped to answer your question regarding searching a hebrew phrase.  

    However, to search for the components of the phrase you can....

     Search for sons and God you could use this search: <Lemma = af/he/בן:3> AND <Lemma = af/he/אלהים> | The New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update  You may  use any bible containing Hebrew, I just used NAS.

    May I also suggest you cross compare Jesus' comments in Matthew 24:36-41 with this segment.

    You get similar results by doing a Bible search and unchecking  MATCH ALL WORD FORMS and searching "sons of God".  Remember to interpret within the context and therefore pay close attention to Gen. 5:1-3 .  This will define what a son of God is, and not what men have speculated it means.  Also a daughter is a man's own daughter.   There isn't a reason IMO to bring angels into the discussion since it is not there in context or in Job for that matter.  That is just good exegesis.

    Don't underestimate yourself. You know "morph" even if you don't know the term. What is the difference between move and moved, talk and talked, walk and walked. The -ed is a "morphological marker" for something being done in the past. The morphological search allows you to search for those things that work like -ed. For example, cow and cows, dog and dogs, cat and cats - the -s is a morphological marker meaning more than one.

    Take it in small steps and you'll be surprised how many "advanced" Logos features you can use.
