Thanks Logos, Thanks MVPs

I migrated from Vista 64 Home Premium to W7 Pro & Office 2010. I've been putting it off for quite awhile--even after having the software (since early Oct). There were 2 gates I needed to get through: 1) sufficient time to do a clean install, since Win Home Preumium can't be upgraded to W7 Pro (only a "Custom" install); and 2) all my fears of the process given how well upgrades (not new installs) have gone in the past.

The 1st surprise was W7 itself, which imported all my settings for every application I've reinstalled (via Easy Transfer to an external drive).

The 2nd surprise was that reinstalling both L3 & L4 was painless! Reinstallation was completely painless! I couldn't believe it! I've never had this little trouble with reinstalling software. And even when I wanted help in avoiding a 9Gb download, I found Dave Hooton's 3 ways to reinstall & they were spot on. Even my 1st failure to launch found help in several MVP posts to others who were experiencing the same. I was able to "remember" in your posts how to turn on logging. And in reading the log, it became obvious what my only problem was: all my settings were for beta, a later version than the production version I had installed. Logos' own posts about beta software provided a direct link to the beta installer. Problem solved. And in Office 2010, when I wanted to reinstall Smart Tags, once again the Wiki & Forum led me to Logos' posts on how to do Smart Tags in 2010. Problem solved in short order.

Thank you, Logos, & thank you, MVPs for all your help--your posts & your efforts to share your knowledge in the WIKI... You made my reinstallation painless.

Bill your are right. The forums and wiki are tremendous resources for all of us. I am a huge fan of Dave's quick installation procedure. I hope I never have to install L4 on a computer using the download of the program, all the resources, and then indexing, ever again.

Glad you are online with Win 7 and Office. If you have an experience similar to mine when I upgraded to Win 7 64 bit, you are going to be very pleased.

And Bill, if you recall ever having to try to reinstall Logos 3 it was a nightmare. You either had to have all the resource files backed up somewhere or have all the discs you've ever received and load one, wait for it to discover resources, transfer them to your HD, then do to the next disc, etc., etc. UGH.

So the new way with Logos 4 is better even if you have to redownload all your resources and reindex. At least the computer is doing that and you aren't.

I think we've all learned a lot from the forums and not just from MVPs.

I couldn't agree more. And I ALWAYS worried that I'd missed a disk or two. And of course I always had to do it on two computers, so the disks had to travel. Then the disk pile outgrew one box after another.

Hey Mark,

Installing Libronix 3 files is easy with the new web site. At the bottom of my "Orders" page in my account there is a list if downloadable Libronix files.

As long as you sync licenses with the server you can click on the file and it installs a lot faster than the CD two-step we used to go through.

Logos is truly a beautiful design.

All 4990 of them? [:D] No. They do not list product I purchased from third parties whether by license transfer or new boxed product off a retailer's shelf (IVP Essential, Hermeneia, WBC, etc.) I don't feel like counting what they do list but if I ever need a single lbxs file, I know where to get it and it is a lot faster than loading the CD. The update script Logos posted when Portfolio came out still works. I don't know if the Master Collection is listed individually but that Libronix 3 link is also provided through my order detail page.

My happy observation is; even users who cling to Libronix 3.0 are enjoying faster, easier installations than the "old days." It shouldn't be long before the CD install is a relic in the Wiki. Our kids will think we are nuts when we reminisce.

That is what I do. I keep backup of the Libronix3 and when I needed to change the hardisk (a few times actually) it was just very easy to reinstall.

P.S. Isn't changing to Windows 7 64bit a wonderful experience after the purgatory of Vista? [:)]

I was already on Vista 64... and it was "pretty" stable... but Vista was a "little" quirky from day one. W7 64 seems to have none of Vista's "quirky" & seems rock solid, not just "pretty" stable.

It IS better. [H] I don't know if I'm ready to buy in on your "even if", that that's an ok cost. [:P][;)] If Dave could figure out a way to shorten the process, I'd think Logos could give us an official (supported) script using a similar method for a re-install... Just dreaming...
