I upgraded to Logos 4 as soon as it was released. I had started with Logos 2 about three years earlier and upgraded to version 3 when it became available. Needless to say I was quite comfortable and familiar with it. My first few months with Logos 4 were a nightmare. I spent considerable time dealing with bugs, constant downloads and relearning how to accomplish my daily/weekly tasks. The software was sluggish and very frustrating to use. At one point I even removed it from my church office computer and went back to Logos 3 (though I left Logos 4 on my home desktop). I am sure my experience was complicated by the fact I had upgraded to Windows 7 about a month prior to Logos 4. But through these forums, the wikis and video tutorials that are graciously provided free of charge I learned how to use the software effectively and I haven't relied on Logos 3 for several months now. There has been some additional expense in the way of hardware upgrades (additional memory and a discrete graphics card). There are still some quirks to which I am adjusting, but I think the software is an incredible set of tools that make my ministry (and personal study) so much easier. I have reinstalled it on my office computer as well.
The reason I feel compelled to post this dissertation (
) is the number of posts that I have seen from users who are giving up on Logos 4 after a few weeks of use. I was at that point even after six months of use. But I was encouraged by the warriors on these forums to hang tough. What impressed me was that everyone understood and acknowledged the validity of my frustration. They helped me to realize that Logos 4 is more complex than any other software package I had ever used. Getting to a level that would allow me to use it efficiently was going to take a period of time directly proportional to the complexity.
So to all of the frustrated and disappointed users I say hang in there. It will be worth it in the long run, especially if you use the software in your ministry.
And to all of you on the forums, who have so patiently helped me, answered my questions (even the obvious ones) and provided encouragement thank you.
Your brother in Christ,
Bob
