Hosting a Logos Demonstration

It looks like I'm going to help host a Logos 4 demo to area pastors in a couple of weeks. Any suggestions? Has anyone else done this?
My contact with Logos is Jordan Radke, Regional Manager for Ministry Development.

Hi Steve, we are ready to follow. I haven't done anything like that but I guess I would follow Morris Proctor's manuals, at least as a guideline. (I am a graduate of Southwestern also).

If you aren't careful the bells and whistles (the eye candy, perhaps) in Logos 4 can get in the way. I think I'd focus on how Logos 4 helps me do what all pastors do week in and week out - study the Bible so they can teach and preach - and do it more in depth with more resources and in less time than we could do it otherwise.
To distinguish Logos from some of the competition they may use or know about, I'd focus on the idea that Logos is a library management and research tool that can help one do translation and exegesis, and one in which the best resources are available, but that it can take one far beyond just translation and exegesis. And it also doesn't force one to settle for a limited set of less than top-notch resources.

Normally, they run a 5- minute video demo that shows keys features and sets the "wow" factor, followed by Q&A and sales - unless you've arranged for something more specific.

A few years back I hosted one of Dale Pritchett's New Zealand road tour stops. It's not clear whether or not you will actually have any Logos staff presenting for you, because the easiest thing is just let them go to it!!
If you don't have any official Logos representation then some of the videos mentioned are great. When I hosted Dale Logos 3 had just come out - what convinced me to upgrade was the ease of use in accessing information about the original languages (without actually knowing any Greek or Hebrew at the time).Dale spent most of his time in his presentation focusing on this functionality. He made the assumption that he was speaking to an audience hungry for fruther insight from God's word and he was presenting a tool to help them do that.
From a personal perspective, when I talk to people about Logos here are some of things I try and help them understand:
- Logos is not just a fancy e-book reader / it is an investigation and study tool
-To purchase and carry around an equivalent library of dead tree editions would both be a logistical impossibility and for most people financially unreachable
- I also like Mark's idea to focus on how you actual might use it in the real world. The whiz bang stuff is cool but for most people the question is - "how will I actually use it on a day to day - week by week basis".

Would suggest you make sure that at some point in the presentation you mention the minimum hardware specifications to do a good job with Logos 4.
It is amazing how many pastors are still operating with ancient hardware [co] that while it would work for Logos 3 and everyday office applications, would even have Logos 4 decline to install !!

(Egg on face!) This is what I get for going out of town for a day after posting a new topic!
I am going to be an innocent bystander here. Logos is supplying a presenter. I'm pouring the coffee. I'm hoping some on the forums have been through this and can tell me what to expect.

Until your fellow pastors want an 'unbiased' review.
I helped host one of the Bible Buss tours when Logos 3 launched. It was fun. The Logos rep handled questions well. But afterward some of those who didn't feel comfortable asking him things (or asking in front of others), asked me. I don't know how many converted, but I was glad to meet some other pastors (and laypersons) with a desire to advance their Bible study.

Victor Dela Cruz, a Logos sales rep., drove about 4 hours to make the presentation this morning. He's a seminary student and did a superb job. The "gee-whiz" presentation wowed everyone present. Some people bought product. I was surprised by the interest in the hymnal material. I hope we made it worth his trip.

Cool idea! But will I still have time to follow the forum? [:)]
