The way metadata gets updated separately from resources is a mystery to me. There have been times when people have reported that their metadata is wrong when other people who have the same resources show that it is correct (has recently been updated). There is no way to force an update to the latest metadata available on the servers. There needs to be. I'm always quite active in reporting metadata bugs on the wiki, but if I can't be certain that my metadata is up-to-date it becomes a possible exercise in wasted time for me to do that.
One recent example: I just installed the Baker Encyclopedia of Christian Apologetics off an old Libronix CD (from long before the "Dictionary" type was changed to "Encyclopedia"). The metadata is wrong for me. But I don't know if it's just because I installed the resource off this old CD and there's newer metadata available for this resource that I simply don't have yet or whether the type is wrong on the file for others too.
So, to the developers: please give us an update metadata command, which would function like update resources. Also, update resources should force a metadata update, which I don't believe it does currently.
