Some more Greek texts please ... Perhaps the Loeb Classical Library?

I know that the Patrologia-Curcus-Completus is still languishing in Pre-pub http://www.logos.com/product/4346/patrologia-cursus-completus-series-graeca-part-1 which is a great pity, but from my point of view it would be helpful to have more Greek texts ... searching for relatively obscure language constructs becomes more meaningful the larger one's database of texts one can search. Plus many of the classical Greek and Latin texts are generally referenced in contemporary New Testament scholarship.

What I would really like to see is Greek-English versions of the classics, ... the Philosophers, Playwrights; Historians and Poets, etc of ancient Greece are often quoted and searched for parallels to the NT/LXX.

It would especially be nice to have: Homer (I know we've already got the Illiad); Heraclitus; Herodotus; Sophocles; Thucydidies; Euripides; Aristophanes, Plato; and Aristotle;

I guess it would be good to have the Latin writers too, you know: Cato; Cicero; Virgil; Horace; Seneca; Ovid; Pliny; Tacitus; Juvenal.

Obviously interlinears would be nice (but in the interest of speed) I would settle for the original language and the English translation in two synchronisable resources.

The good thing would be that there wouldn't be too much tagging to do for these resources. They could be put into production very quickly and cheaply.

I can certainly see the benefits of having these types of resources in Logos. Did you know that linkage to such resources can be obtained through the right click menu? select a Greek lemma and then "Perseus Lookup." While this will take you outside of Logos, it still provides access to these additional works.

It's almost amusing to hear Greek spoken of as a "relatively obscure language." If you want obscure, try Hebrew. There is, of course, the Mishnah, but there is really nothing in biblical Hebrew other than the OT itself (well, some Dead Sea stuff).

Yes, you understood it as I intended. I am just working on Acts 13:38 and it has the "relatively obscure" phrase "justify from". Searching all the Greek texts in Logos that I own (which, I think, is all of them) only brings up 4 or 5 other examples.

Hence the need for a pre-pub to try the idea out!

There have been other threads calling for a wider range of material in Logos. The one's I suggested, are all ones that get called up in academic commentaries as providing this or that parallel to something in the Bible. So it might be possible to present arguments for this kind of collection that gets enough Logos users interested. Personally, I think more of this kind of material could widen the appeal of Logos to more and more users (and hence bring the costs down for all of us)

No, I wasn't aware of the Perseus Lookup option. What a cool feature. It didn't do quite what I wanted, but I will certainly have more of a play, and see if I can learn how to use this site. Thank you.

I assume you are referring to ἄφεσις ἁμαρτιῶν in that verse. It really isn't that obscure. I get one instance in the Odes of the LXX, 12 in the NT and 8 in the Apostolic Fathers.

A search to use to find these kinds of sentence is:

(<lemma = lbs/el/δικαιόω>, <lemma = lls/el/δικαιόω>) NEAR (<lemma = lbs/el/ἀπό>, <lemma = lls/el/ἀπό>),

and this turns up: quite a few references where the apo does not relate to the dikaiow; Matthew 11:19 (Luke 7:35) which are (arguably) not true parallels; and Romans 6:7, TSim 6:7; S. Herm. Vision III.ix.1; and Sirach 26:29 which are. I make that 5 (or 7) instances, which is what I meant by"relatively obscure". It is the 3rd meaning of `dikaiow' in BDAG, which it defines as `"make free" from', although some argue for a more traditional understanding of "justify" in these verses. Good commentaries on Acts 13:38--39, and Romans 6:9 tend to have a lot to say on the matter.

Now I just have to work out how to expand this (kind of) search through perseus site!

I took the liberty of modifying your posting since I refuse to use an interlinear.

The phrase ἄφεσις ... ἀπὸ ... is somewhat unusual, but it really shouldn't be so difficult to understand. It is linke to the genitive of that from which one is first mentioned as being liberated, namely, sin and must be understood as having the same relationship to ἄφεσις as does ἁμαρτίων. It is also to be considered as that from which one is liberated. Instead of using the genitive the author used ἀπό to indicate separation. We are therefore separated or liberated from sin and anything with regard to which one is not able to be made right through the law of Moses.

Homer's Iliad is one of my most favourite Logos Resources. I use the Greek and English to help me improve my German. Someday, I'll also work on the French!
