The commentary won't automatically open (that's by design), but is it showing up in the Passage Guide, from where you can click on any relevant hit in that commentary and thus open it to that location?
If it's not even showing up there, give us more info:
- What Scripture reference are you typing into the home page search box?
- Is there definitely an entry on that verse or passage in the MacArthur NASB commentary?
- Do you happen to have a custom guide template called "My Passage Guide" which does not include your MacArthur NASB commentary? (If you don't know what I'm talking about, then no you don't. You couldn't possibly have done this unintentionally.)

It shows in the passage guide I just thought I would be able to make it my preferred comm. The Macarthur NASB is a commentary on almost all passages.

NASB is a commentary on almost all passages. As
your preferred commentary, it should show up first in the list on your
passage guide. That's all that "preferred" status does for commentaries,
unlike with Bibles which will open when you click on a Bible reference. However you might want to consider creating a Layout
that has your MacArthur NASB commentary in one window and your Bible in
another. And link them together on the same Link Set. You could have
other items in your Layout too, such as a Passage Guide, various Tools
windows, etc. Then whenever you navigate in your Bible to a particular
passage, your commentary will jump to that passage as well. Using custom
Layouts like this is probably a better way to study a passage than
using the default layout that comes up when you search for a passage
from the Home Page. Just think of the reference box at the top of your
Bible window in your custom layout as serving the same purpose as the
"Go" box on the Home Page, and you'll be all set.For more info on Layouts, see http://wiki.logos.com/Layouts and be sure to watch the videos linked on the right side of that page (particularly Mark Barnes's videos and the Layouts Management one from Logos).

i ran into this with someone else, they were trying to get the Macarthur NASB as their default commentary. The problem is that the Macarthur is a Study Bible and Logos4 requires that the default commentary be a Commentary. So Logos4 will not allow you to set a Study Bible as the default commentary.
EDIT: i do not have this resource, but if you look in the library at that resource with Type column showing, if it says Bible Notes, then it is a Study Bible.
EDIT2: Logos4 has some Study Bibles marked as Commentaries (e.g. Nelson Study Bible: New King James Version). These which are marked as Bible Commentaries in the Type column can be used as a default commentary when prioritized highest in Library and will show up when using the Home page.

Maybe in one of the updates they changed the Type to Bible Commentary. You can check in the Library next to MacArthur Study Bible in the column Type.
