Hey guy's, I'm currently a Bible Theology major at Central Bible College. I'm graduating this May with a BA. Currently in my hermeneutics 2 class I'm having to write an exegetical portfolio over Ephesians 6:10-20 - The Whole Armor of God. Would any of you have any suggestions on a good commentary? I currently own Scholars Silver edition. Thank you!

If you're doing a portfolio project you need to take a look at the top commentaries listed here: http://www.bestcommentaries.com/category/ephesians/

I can't think of an Ephesians commentary in Silver that will meet the needs of this project, consult all of them but I recommend hitting your school's library and read/photocopying the sections from everything they have on the passage.

For an exegetical study of Ephesians, here's what I'd use:

    1. Peter O'Brien, Ephesians, Pillar New Testament Commentary
    2. Clinton Arnold, Ephesians, Zondervan Exegetical Commentary on the NT
    3. Frank Thielman, Ephesians, Baker Exegetical Commentary on the NT
    4. Andrew Lincoln, Ephesians, Word Biblical Commentary

There are a bunch of others out there too, but that would be a good start. O'Brien's in particular is quite good, as is Arnold's new commentary.

    Hope that helps!

Kevin and Jason are right. Scholar's Silver doesn't have enough adequate commentaries for this kind of study. You'll either need to add more books to Logos, or use print books.

Joshua Smith, I am currently work on my THD, Kevin's suggestion is good, but if you don't want be tied down  to a library you might consider this resource, http://preceptaustin.org/ephesians.htm it contains some great commentaries, that would work very well for a paper at this level.

    It contains resources such as:

Henry Alford the Greek NT Commentary

Johann A. Bengel Gnomon of the the NT Commentary

John Eadie Ephesians Commentary with some very good insights in the Greek

Charles Elliot Ephesians Commentary that deals with the Greek in many places

It also contains modern writers like:

    John Piper

    John Mac Arthur

Wayne Barber who is really good!

    And many more.

There are at least 45 commentaries gathered on this one page, you may have access to enough good commentaries on this one page to do your whole paper without going to the library!!!

Please check this source out and let me know if it is helpful.

Far beyond a commentary but IMHO mandatory in every Christian's library is William Gurnall's work The Christian in Complete Armour  Available in Logos and worth the current $39 price.

Hmm Sarcasm is my love language. Obviously I love you.

I have reported a couple of these as SPAM - but do not know if LOGOS reads those reports or not.

They do, they are normally very good about deleting spam within short order.
