crash report:

L4 just crashed, and here is the report.  What was I doing at the time, reading Logos' forums.  Because of this, I do not know what L4 was doing when it crashed.

8446.Logos4Crash.txt

I do not have the log file because I turned it off to import my notes, and I have not turned it on after I imported them.

There has been an "out of memory exception" crash that has been reported several times but it has been related to print / export feature. Whether yours is related to that one I do not know. If it is related, Melissa has indicated this problem will be fixed in the next Beta.

Tom ~  The OutOfMemoryException references Import. Was Logos 4 importing your notes at the time of the crash, while you were in forums?

I thought I typed update now.  I just imported my notes a couple of days ago.  I could have typed import all out of habit.

I am still having this issue when I import my notes

Does this OutOfMemory Exception occur every time you import notes?  Are there any other programs running at the time?

yes, and while I cannot remember what I was doing the previous times I was importing my notes, but L4 was the only program up and running this time.

Development says that the easiest way to troubleshoot the problem would be to get a copy of the L3 notes. Your notes wouldn't have to posted in the forum. You could zip them and send them to Logos4Feedback@logos.com, and once we've tested the importation here, we would delete them. However, if you're uncomfortable with that, perhaps you could give us an idea of how many notes are being imported and how big, which could also help.

Also, a full log may have some information that would help us debug what is going on, so perhaps the next time you import notes, you could enable logging first and send the resulting Logos4.log file.

I will import my notes sometime next week.  I have turned off logging because it slows down the import process.  It normally takes a couple of hours to import my notes.  The last time I imported my notes with logging enabled, I stopped it at the 24 hour point.  I think the extra time comes from the fact that the log file becomes HUGE very quickly.  Because of this, I will enable logging the next time I import my notes, and at various times I will break the log file into smaller segments.

I will also zip my note files together and email them to the above email address when I do the import.  This way you will have the same files that caused my laptop to crash.

After importing my notes, I can say that L4 does not crash when I import my notes when I  enable logging.  When I do not have logging enabled, L4 crashes.  Here is the current crash log.  I will email my notes and logs.

Tom ~  Thanks for sending the notes and logs. Due to size, though, I wasn't able to receive them. Could you attach or send the full Logos4.log file so development can at least review the full log?  If they find that having the note files would be necessary to troubleshoot further, we'll look into another way to get them. Thank you.

    Melissa,

    Thanks for following up.

When I have logging enabled, I do not have this problem.  I did send the one log file (broken into many pieces so that the size of the file would reduce the impact on how long it would take to import my notes.

Just a reminder, when I produce these files, L4 does not crash.  When I do not produce these files, L4 crashes.  It happens this way every time I import my notes.

The emails that I sent with part 1a and part 1b is the subject is the one log file.  I can brake it down into smaller files if you need me.

So, do you want my log files or my note files?

Tom  ~  A fix was implemented for another document issue which we think may eliminate the OutOfMemoryException you're getting when importing notes. After 4.3 Beta 2 is made available and is installed on your system, and you've imported your notes again, let us know whether or not the crash reoccurred (without logging).

Melissa, in another post you said,

    Francis and Tom,

After installing Beta 3, have the additional lines disappeared in the preview text?

Sorry, I got ahead of myself.  I just noticed that a fix did not make it into Beta 2, but should be in Beta 3. I will follow up with you again in a couple of weeks after the Beta 3 release.

    Melissa

I do not need to import my notes right now, but I was going to do this for you next week.  I am wondering if the out of memory issue is related to the fix that did not make it into beta 2, but is going into beta 3.  Thanks

Yes, development thinks that a fix in Beta 3 may also resolve the OEM issue you're seeing when importing L3 notes.

I did not see anything in the release notes that I could tie back to importing my notes.  Thus, did this fix make it into beta 3?

The fix was for a background function and not directly related to your crash; however, developers felt that it might resolve the OutOfMemoryExceptions you are getting during L3 note import.

I just re-imported my notes to get ready to reproduce this bug: http://community.logos.com/forums/t/32662.aspx, and L4 did not crash.  Thanks for fixing this issue for me.  As soon as a couple pre-pubs make it into production, I will attempt to reproduce the syncing issue.

Thanks for the status update. Just to verify that the problem is resolved, was logging enabled or disabled when you imported (since it didn't crash before when logging was enabled)?

Yes, I believe the problem has been resolved.  I imported my notes without logging enabled, and L4 did not crash.
