The 1.62% directing Logos 4 priorities

Yes, the math is flawed - it includes only people who have posted on the forums. It then divides the uservoice top 40 votes against the 10 votes assigned per voter. Here are the top 40 Logos 4 priorities - excluding 3rd party software and other Logos products. Are these your priorities? If not, go to logos.uservoice.com and vote - we're more than 400,000 votes short of all the forum users expressing their opinions.

The next group, if you are interested. Note some items would jump up in priority if duplicate requests were combined. You might want to move your vote to the item with the higher current ranking.

MJ, I appreciate your trying to be more inclusive and get more folks involved. I can only speak for myself ... I have various opinions about this and that about Logos4 that I want. But my feeling is that those that are heavily dependent on it should have their say. I'm happy to go with what they think is important. I guess it's because Logos is more just software ... it's to help reach other people.

This is definately a call to action...my UserWhines for better Tablet support aren't scoring into these lists.  Please cast your Tablet votes; the fate of "point and click" literally hangs in the balance.

    Ummm. (dare I ask?)

Anybody wanna try and bribe me to vote for your particular pet projects? [:D]

I would entertain casting 10 votes in exchange for a new resource in my library. [6]

Can anybody say Ultimate Archaeology Collection? It is sitting in my shopping basket waiting on a bump towards checkout.

I specifically left out things that were not basic Logos 4 - the other elements deserve attention but they have a subset of users. I wanted to encourage ALL users to express opinions if they had some. There may come a day when tablet and phone are the primary products - I promise to omit the PC product requests then.

Unfortunately, I want about half of these as my priorities - without mentioning those that didn't make the top 80 cut. I want about 1000 people to accept $0.001 rounded to the near penny as a bribe to bump my 40 items up the list.[H]

Doesn't look like we are driving it too fast, does it?  The number one item by far has basically been ignored.  It was originally promised in the "first quarter", then the "second quarter", then just "planned".

I am not so sure the Logos is very interested in what we want.  This seems to be a way to pacify people while they do what they want.

I think I will drop out of the expressing my opinion voting, as it doesn't seem to matter.

That sounds like I am upset or down on Logos.  Not so!  I have invested thousands of dollars in the last year, and thousands more before that in Logos software, and every cent was well spent.  I would not consider another Bible program.  Logos is a great company.

But honestly, the priority of what they are working on is driven more by profits than what customers want.

Of course, that is true of every company.  It is the nature of business, and usually the two interests (profitability and what customers want) are the same.  But obviously, not always.

In all fairness, we have to give Logos some credit - they have implemented some items such as the search while typing and the page view reading because the users demanded them. So as users we have to take some responsibility for the delays. I will admit that several functions that are primary for my use of Logos are still missing so I'm not a "happy camper" -- but I place the blame on the perpetually over-optimistic IT management (that seems to be a universal quality of IT management) and on users who don't share my priorities.

Also, the in-line interlinear display seemed to be a response to customer demands. Logos, rightly so, understands that taking care of customer desires is key to staying in business. I suspect that the order of things appearing has to do more with technical challenges and difficulty than what they want or don't want to do.

I am not saying there has been no response to customer demands, and I am not upset with Logos.  I will continue to spend every cent that I can on buying Logos resources.

But it is obvious that if the # 1 request has not been addressed in the first year, then response to customer demands is not too much of a priority unless it coincides with what the company was going to do anyway.

I don't blame them for doing whatever they feel is best for the company rather than what customers request.  Sometimes that is how you stay profitable.  After all, our requests are not always reasonable and we do not know all the facts that the company does.  It may turn out that PBB never appears because it is more profitable not to have it.

No, that's not obvious at all:

    a) There may be other things that have to be done before it is even possible to do #1.

    b) There may have been other things that were #1, but which are now done (I don't know, being too new).

    c) I don't think Logos needs Uservoice to know that fixing crashes and other issues that make what we already have unusable will always be everyone's absolute #1 priority.

    d) There may be things that only one developer is really qualified to do, and he may have been tied up with the above.

    e) It may be complicated and take a very long time to finish.

    f) They -- or we here at the forums -- may have suddenly come up with some great idea that made them realize that they have to rethink the whole concept of the feature before they waste any more time on coding something they would later have to recode.

    g) ...

I have been saying that for a long time:

"Hmmm. I don't see PBB capabiities in Logos 4 yet . Do you?"

"Those paranoid 'black helicopter' conspiracy theorists among us wonder if this means it might not happen."

     http://community.logos.com/forums/p/16257/124984.aspx#124984
"how can Logos donate all the time to rework the PBBs without hope of financial recuperation?"

    http://community.logos.com/forums/p/16257/125102.aspx#125102
"Will Logos make any public domain PBBs available when they could produce their own in-house version for a better profit?"

I will say it again: Why would Logos invest in reworking, tagging and publishing the Libronix 3.0 format PBBs into Logos 4.0 format when they can sell them for a profit when it goes through the Pre-Pub route instead?  I would love to be proven wrong. But I purchased Spurgeon Collection and Calvin 500 Collection for many hundreds of dollars because I have a reasonable certainty we will never see the L3 PBBs available in Logos 4.

You're assuming Bob was lying a couple of days ago when he said "We are actively working on it, but I can't promise a particular date yet"?

    Matthew, my friend,

Did you say those things off your own bat or did someone buy you with Logos resources? [;)] (Just pulling your leg. This is Scottish humour BTW.)

I must confess that the few PBB resources, which I did acquire in L3, I have hardly used because they lack the integrated functionality of regular Logos resources. I have always regarded PBB and PDF resources as stop-gaps until the full Logos resource comes along as it did with Calvin and Baxter, etc. I still regard Logos resources, even those which cost more than the printed books, as well worth the price because of the integrated, tagged, searchable functionality they provide. [:)]

    Every blessing

I would expect the note sharing to be first, and then the PBB on the back of it, I too am frustrated by the delays, but I do expect both to happen, but only Logos know when..

IMO the decision to have parity in MAC/WIN is likely the main cause this hasn't happened yet..

because I have a reasonable certainty we will never see the L3 PBBs available in Logos 4.

You realize that whether or not the people who made the L3 PBB's were users not Logos employees. To justify this comment you need to know a significant number of variables as applied to a significant number of people. Speaking solely for myself there are:

    • some PBB's that I have converted to notes for use in L4 - they will have low priority for conversion
    • some PBB's that were created for particular projects that are completed
    • some PBB's that are of ongoing value that will be converted quickly
    • some items that were not made into PBB's in L3 because of the limitations of the system that will be high priority in L4
    • speed depends upon the amount of time other projects take and the health of my mother

I suspect other users have their own variables.
