If in app purchasing added to iOS app, wonder about Logos resource licensing change ?

If Logos adds in app purchasing to iOS application (iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch), wonder if new resource purchased in iOS application would be licensed for other platforms ? (or have 70 % discount on Logos web site to unlock resource for other platform use).

Advertising possibility (or notice to click when entering in app store):

"If purchase in app, resource licensed to iOS devices and 70 % discount at Logos web site to unlock for other platforms. If purchase at Logos.com for same price, resource licensed for all Logos platforms, including iOS devices."

Observation: on iOS devices, Apple receives 30 % of convenient in app purchases. Currently, resource purchases at Logos web site are licensed for use on all Logos platforms.

Appears if rental purchased on an iOS device, can only be viewed on that device until rental period expires.

Apple's terms restrict renting content through in-app purchases. Subscriptions are different than rental.

As for Logos, I am 99.99% confident they would not offer in-app purchases if it restricted the resource to iOS devices. And I am 75% thinking they would pull the app rather than offer in-app purchases and take a 30% cut in pay. The iOS app makes them no (or little) money... they aren't going to take a cut for that.

Concur - http://www.logos.com/product/5876/learn-to-use-biblical-greek-and-hebrew-with-logos-bible-software has 42 movies with retail price of $ 499.95 - renting individual movies for limited time on one iOS device would allow a Logos user to learn lesson(s) and potentially help sales of full purchase (could offer rental discount toward purchase price).

Appears Logos has Third Party end user license agreement choices concerning in-app purchase resource restrictions. One third party option is restricting resource use to iOS devices and offering 70 % discount at Logos web site for use on other platforms. Displaying iOS end user license agreement before initially entering in-app store could inform consumer purchases in-app are restricted to iOS devices with 70 % discount at Logos.com to purchase for use on other platforms. Also resource purchases for same price at Logos.com can be used freely in iOS application. Appears App Store review guidelines prohibit linking to external web site, but do not preclude license agreement acknowledgement.

If a consumer purchases a resource in-app, followed by 70 % discount purchase at Logos.com, then Logos receives same amount as if consumer had originally purchased at Logos.com (albeit informed consumer paid 130 % for resource).

Observation: when Apple updates iTunes agreement, have to agree one time with new terms before can use iTunes. Logos iOS application could require acknowledgement of end user license agreement before entering in-app store. Also Logos web site could advertise purchase differences; allow consumer option to pay 30 % to Apple.

The iOS app makes them no (or little) money... they aren't going to take a cut for that.

Hence wondering about future of Logos application on iOS devices. Have enjoyed using Logos on iPad in church services; Thankful for Logos library content access offline. Planning to continue using Logos Bible Software in church - currently not know if Apple device will be appropriate in few months (even though Apple is # 1 mobile device manufacturer worldwide and makes great products for consumer usage).

Well, if Apple continue to mess with these aspects, I dont ever expect to buy another Apple product if I have alternatives. I vote by not buying!
I was maybe going to get an iPhone 4 or 5 or something, mid-year but no way now until after I see how this all shakes down.
If the Android apps is ready first, then no more Apples ...

Apple wants iOS devices for over 100 million consumers to be easy to use for purchase of any digital content, including subscriptions to newspapers and magazines. From consumer perspective, do appreciate Apple's direction.

Likewise watching Android tablets and Logos application - wondering about hardware for decent Logos performance. Google has chosen to fragment Android into phone (2.4) and tablet (3.0) versions. Android manufacturers customize user interface, which may prevent future upgrades. Hence, if buying an Android device, want to make ensure Logos performs good now. Also aware Android has much greater potential for malware.

Currently cannot recommend purchasing any device for Logos mobile application - anticipate opinion changing soon. Praying for Logos (the company) to make wise and peaceful business decisions; looking forward to appropriate announcements.

In contrast, highly recommend purchasing full featured Logos 4 Mac and PC for use on desktop or laptop computers (lightweight laptop may be best option for using Logos in church, especially tablet style - several models in pipeline). Thankful for upcoming Logos 4.2a version for Mac and PC with substantial feature parity (noticeably missing Handouts on Mac).

It appears one of the changes that Apple is making is the requirement that content purchased via other platforms but used in an iOS app must be made available for purchase in app. Seems like Logos (and I'm guessing other companies out there) that make content available via iOS apps, but who have not to this point used the iOS app to actually make the content available for purchase, will be forced to do so or pull the app.

It has occurred to me that something like this may prompt Logos to concentrate more on the biblia.com platform. Ostensibly that should be relatively platform agnostic. So it may get around some of the issues like the different versions of Android or now this change in the Apple model for content based apps. Dealing with the vagaries of different mobile browsers is challenge for sure, but the hurdles may be lower than other paths.

Rental possibility: online read access to resource on one iOS device - $ 0.99 for a day; $ 3.99 for a week; $ 9.99 for a month - can read and determine if purchase worthwhile addition to my Logos library. For some resources, looking at sample pages on Logos web site provides insight to table of contents and preface - but not know if resource would be valuable addition to my bible study - resource rental provides way to read much more.

For March Madness, $ 0.99 rental could provide online reading access to all tournament contenders. For 12 Days of Christmas sale, $ 0.99 rental provides reading access to resources on sale; on forums read about NICOT scholarship value - rental inexpensive to personally explore resource value.

Future marketing potential - if resource rental lead to sales, could offer free rentals (especially to repeat buyers). Perhaps some free rental codes could appear on Logos Blog or Logos 4 Home Page (possibly in conjunction with sales).

Perhaps % of rental could become credit toward future resource rentals - e.g. for every $ 10 in rental receive $ 2 credit.
