1. The Catholic Encyclopedia http://www.logos.com/product/8511/the-catholic-encyclopedia#001 I'm assuming that this is the 1917 edition. No previews are available, but it can be viewed online at http://newadvent.org/cathen/
2. The Jewish Encyclopedia http://www.logos.com/product/8537/the-jewish-encyclopedia
Again, no previews. Available online http://jewishencyclopedia.com/
3. New Schaff-Herzog Encyclopedia of Religious Knowledge http://www.logos.com/product/8567/new-schaff-herzog-encyclopedia-of-religious-knowledge
No previews. Available online http://www.ccel.org/s/schaff/encyc/encyc13/htm/TOC.htm
All three of these look awesome, and I've bid well over what the current "going price" (where the peak in the chart is) is for all of them.
The encyclopedias are the best thing on Community Pricing (IMO), too bad they aren't moving much. I've bid on those three. I'd also like to see these two make it as well: Cyclopaedia of Biblical, Theological, and Ecclesiastical Literature (12 vols.) and Encyclopaedia of Religion and Ethics (13 vols.).
All of these resources would greatly improve most people's libraries, they are all top notch, I am sad that more folks don't see their value! They have great value in understanding background material and the scriptures. They are also very useful for getting a better grasp on church history.
George I am thankful you have started this thread, who knows what may happen, they would sure be a great deal at the prices that are currently going for.
In Christ,
Jim VanSchoonhoven
I'm familiar with the Jewish and Schaff-Herzog encyclopedias and have bids on both...but the one I want to see most is Hasting's Encyclopaedia of Religion and Ethics. I used this resource for personal study back in college and the detail in it blew my mind. I've been salivating at the chance to add it to my library for over a decade...it was one of the earliest things to be put on PrePub all those ages ago (I'm being dramatic), but there wasn't sufficient interest so it was eventually withdrawn. I was thrilled when they finally brought it back for another shot. Still, the interest is soooo s-l-u-g-g-i-s-h...which I don't understand. To me it's sort of like the Pilgrims deciding they just aren't going to be that interested in this funny stuff the Native Americans call "corn".
I guess it's easy to deny the importance and need for that about which one has little knowledge or familiarity.

Apparently this is the 1915 edition since other editions have a different number of volumes. Feel free to add it. I do have a $20.00 bid on it.
I'll tell you why I don't bid on these resources. I probably have 50 resources that are of type "encyclopedia" or some similar form of resource. Quite frequently, when I look up a topic across them, the information is very similar. It makes it very hard for me to judge how valuable these kinds of resources will actually be.
Also, I'm ~2,000 resources behind on my reading.
Donnie
What ! Only 2,000 resources behind ? You obviously need to buy some more. [:)]
The resources mentioned on this thread will likely have entries on topics that are not covered in your current encyclopedias. They each have a different scope than regular bible encyclopedias, and that's why they are valuable.,
These are all top of the line Encyclopedias, that contain much more information than many of todays encyclopedias, not only are the articles many times more in depth but many times there are many other topics covered.
On top of this we get to see these topics covered through eyes from a different time period, this alone can be worth the price of the set. At different times different things can be more or less in focus, in many case we can be blinded by the times we live in, these give us another point of view, one that may have been important and forgotten.
There is also the fact that we get to see things from a Jewish, and Catholic point of view, something that you seldom find in most of todays protestant encyclopedias which are found in Logos and the prices are extremely low. I wish I could have bought ISBE, Zondervan, and AYBD at these kind of discounts!!! I had to spend more for AYBD than I can buy all of these sets for and they contain tons of information that AYBD doesn't, it is a great deal for those doing research.
I bid on 2 of the resources - my first CP bids.
Thought I'd bring this one to the fore again. All three of these reference works offer an incredible amount of information for very low prices on CP. Can we get 1 or more (preferably all three) of them moving?
Agreed
Yes, let's try these again, come on, jump on board you will not be sorry, these are all great sets and very helpful, they are often mentioned as resources in other books.
Please, I really would love these in my library and at these prices I can still afford them! In todays world it is getting to be rare that I can still afford books. Help me out they really will help round out your library!
Jim
Jim & Todd,
I see from today's blog that Dale Pritchett's on your side too.
I'm in.
Scott
Did my part on these, but doesn't look like they're moving very fast.
I bid too. Dale really did a good job on his blog discussion. A lot of these CP resources are hidden gems until someone talks them up.
