I'm not in the market, but I'll be drooling if half the rumors are true. Light-peak? Liquidmetal? Custom built-in SSD option+HD, and no DVD drive?

Yes in the same here, not expecting to get a new laptop for 3 or 4 years but always cool to see what new features they come out with. Although this sounds like it might be a complete redesign and I am always a bit cautious of the completely new design, I got one of the Titanium Powerbooks and it was a bit of disappointment, screen died twice only once under warranty, and had no audio input, also it seemed to have poorly designed hinges. But other than that it was a great machine. LOL Anyway just always cool to see the new designs, and what they come up with. I really think my next book might be an Air, something ultra light and a smaller screen is no big deal for me.

Having been around the block with technology, I'd probably wait until something ships, watch for any fallout and then order. The Sandy Bridge chips had a problem out of the gate. Such is life on the bleeding edge.

Sandy Bridge processors were ok; supporting chipset had issues with SATA port 3 and higher degrading performance over time - chipset not an issue for many laptops that only use SATA ports 0 and 1 for internal drives (including optical).

After new models ship, if hardware has an issue, complaints tend to appear within a month or so.

True, but I will always have my Macbook that I'm currently using to fall back on if something goes wrong. Plus, design/quality issues are what Applecare is for. Right now, the performance of my Macbook is a real issue for me getting my work done in a timely matter. For some of us, this upgrade can't get here soon enough.

Also, as Keep Smiling noted, the problem wasn't with the CPUs but the boards, and only on certain SATA ports, which I understand Apple doesn't use anyway. That's not to say something else couldn't go wrong, but something else could always go wrong - even with mature tech.

Looks like they are now here. The only thing that puzzles me is why they went with some USB 2.0 ports since USB 3.0 is now here. I think they are simply drumming more biz for their new connector, USB 3.0 will probably get on in the next refresh.

They won't offer USB3.0. They're jumping to "Thunderbolt", which is their implementation of Intel's "LightPeak", which is an optical interconnect.

I'm thinking that these new MacBook Pros will handle Logos 4 very well and might end a lot of peoples frustrations. At least I hope this is true with all of the major updates under the hood.

It is true the machine is serious overkill for the majority of users, but while I am happy with my i7 mock quad core (4 threads) the new quad core mbp look great. And I like how they added in thunderbolt without taking away previous connections. For those wanting a new MacBOOK these look like awesome machines, I am sure Logos will run very happily on them, and as processor hungry as Logos is perhaps this machine was made for us.

Power is relative. I was amazed at all I could do on a Powerbook 140 with 2MB of RAM and a 20MB hard drive.

O so very true but Logos won't even run on a PowerPC let alone a lowly 68000 series admittedly there are 2 current Bible Apps out there that will still run on a 68000 series machine but both are amazing powerful programs. I would still be happily using my PowerBook G4 1.67 if it wasn't for Logos. That being said I am not overly sad about my Intel MBP, and while I tend to find Logos a little sluggish on what was one of the fastest MacBook Pros available (i7 2.66, i do know it got bumped to 2.8 in October). I do understand that many people with slower intel macs find Logos almost unusable. I know Logos will optimize the program as the go but not sure a older intel mac will ever give satisfactory performance. But many of us need to learn the virtue of patience.

I am using my new MBP 17". Used the built in migration tool that comes with the new mac. Tried to start Logos. A window opens and I get the little musical jingle. But then it hangs with nothing being displayed. I'm wondering if there is a problem "transferring" to a new system like that.

My experience with Logos is dramatically improved. I no longer am dealing with an almost constant beach-ball effect. The extra two inches of screen real-estate at a much higher resolution really improves the experience as well. At this point, I think I can wait quite a while before bumping up to a SSD. Even more speed would be great, but not at the prices SSDs are going for these days.

I'm not going to get another Macbook Pro (have an early 2009 13 inch) but will, instead, opt for the iMac once it's refreshed. I'm sure the intel chips and speed will be enhanced in the iMac line in a similar fashion as the Macbook Pro line. However, if money were an unlimited resource, I'd be typing this entry in the Apple store, while waiting for them to put my new Macbook Pro into a bag!

I have considered a Mac Book Pro, they are beautiful and
very reliable machines. But I cannot in
good conscience spend that kind of money on a laptop, they are overpriced. Logos4
works great on Windows7 and you can get a powerful pc for much less than a mac.

Depends on component trade off(s) for buying powerful new PC laptop every other year. Without ThunderBolt, can configure new Dell 17" XPS with more hardware than 17" MacBook Pro for similar price (e.g. 16 GB Ram, 3 GB video - class 1 graphics, dual 640 GB 7200 RPM drives, and 3D screen) - submitted product feedback comment to Apple (easier to justify premium pricing with premium components).

Bit disappointed in Apple's default hard drive specs, especially since faster 7200 RPM hard drives are few dollars more. Also surprised by mid-range graphics choice (class 2) => http://www.notebookcheck.net/Comparison-of-Laptop-Graphics-Cards.130.0.html

For both Dell and Apple, prefer to buy refurbished models - looking for best value (not cheapest computer) - Apple reduced pricing for older (slower) models:

Steve, to each his own I guess. I just have found that when I have a Mac I spend much less time managing my computer and more time actually working. I could have continued using my 2007 Macbook (not a pro model) if it weren't for Logos - which was still usable but just too slow for my liking. My wife is now using my old machine for web, email, and writing (Scrivener) - which it is totally capable of doing. I expect she could use that 2007 machine for at least 2 more years, making my $1200 Mac investment last 6 years. A friend of mine just upgraded his Macbook Pro after almost ten years with his last Mac. I hope this machine will at least keep working for me until Logos 5 [;)] So, I don't really mind paying extra for a machine that doesn't get in my way and I can use much longer than I can the average PC. Also, with my new Macbook Pro, I don't feel the need to buy a desktop at all. If I want to work at a desk with a huge monitor (that I can get for a couple hundred bucks) then all I need to do is plug my Macbook Pro into it.

cause the resale on the camry drops drastically. T.C.O (total cost of ownership is something people dont often take into account. I have work mates that once a year have to pay the repair guy alot to get there machine sorted. Also i dont need to buy alot of extra software. I even run a commercial website for a friend using the free iweb that comes with every Mac and my wife would kill me if she didnt have iphoto

Apple offers quality free technical support at Apple Stores - Genius Bar. In contrast, am aware of one PC service department that replaced a hard drive under warranty - installed a new hard drive - did not install any operating system so repaired laptop not usable.

Typical first run issues I think with assembly. I remember some older MAC desktop models had solder rattling around the cases. Some of the early iMacs about a year or so ago were shipping out in bad shape too. Another reason to let the dust settle and reviews come in first.

As to cost, PCs are a better deal. You can run Logos on a $450 PC with monitor from Walmart. As to value, Macs are actually cheaper. My two year old Mac Mini w. 2GB runs Logos 4 Mac ok. The only upgrade I did was installing Snow Leopard for $30. Like getting a new computer for the cost of a dinner out.
