Hi friends!

I am looking for an efficient way to search Hebrew weak verbs (principally the ones using gutturals on the first root). I don't mind the method I may need to go, as long it is efficient. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Deni.

I don't want to presume that I understand what you are looking for so I need to ask you whether what you are interested in doing is to locate instances of particular weak verbs in the text or whether you are looking for a list of all weak verbs at one time. If the first, it is a simple matter to do a morphological search of BHS for a particular root by entering in the search box and selecting its lemma. Because it is so simple I'm sure I must not have understood you.

Hi George Thanks for taking time to reply. I will give you more details:

    My searching range is: Genesis

I want to be able to list all the Hebrew weak verbs from category "Pe Alef" (or as someone would say: I-Alef) and be able to choose in my search if they would be perfect, imperfect, participle, imperatives, etc...

The same thing I would like to do later with the other verbs with different weakness categories. I am not having in mind the list by different stems because I am able to identify that.

I hope it works. Keep me informed if you need more details. But based on your request for clarifying, I just realized other possibilities I can be using in the future too. Thank you for any tentative of helping me.

I would concur with David. I'm not sure offhand what adjustments would be necessary to locate roots for verbs other than geminate. perhaps I can come up with something, but I'll need to work on it.

Sorry guys! thank you for the help so far, but it didn't work yet!

Hey David thanks for the link but I believe that line of codes was been used for the previous versions of logos. I tested on my logos 4 (Mac) and It didn't give me anything back!

Yes as I said only in LDLS (=Logos 3)

The following lines should do the job...

    פ"א

    lemma:/[א][א-ת][א-ת]/ @ WestMorph = v*

    פ"נ

    lemma:/[נ][א-ת][א-ת]/ @ WestMorph = v*

    פו"י

    lemma:/[י][א-ת][א-ת]/ @ WestMorph = v*

    ל"ו

    lemma:/[א-ת][א-ת][ה]/ @ WestMorph = v*

    כפולים

    lemma:/.(.)\1/ @ WestMorph = v*

    ע"ו

    lemma:/[א-ת][ו][א-ת]/ @ WestMorph = v*

    ע"י

    lemma:/[א-ת][י][א-ת]/ @ WestMorph = v*

    EDIT:

In Logos 4 this seems to work:

    פ"א

    lemma:א*@v

    ע"א

    lemma:?א?@v

    ל"א

    lemma:*א@v

The previous Logos 3 (!) searches did not include attached suffixes. To include them use the following:

    פ"א

    lemma:/[א][א-ת][א-ת]/ @ WestMorph [=v??????+S???E?J?C?V?]

    פ"נ

    lemma:/[נ][א-ת][א-ת]/ @ WestMorph [=v??????+S???E?J?C?V?]

    פו"י

    lemma:/[י][א-ת][א-ת]/ @ WestMorph [=v??????+S???E?J?C?V?]

    ל"ו

    lemma:/[א-ת][א-ת][ה]/ @ WestMorph [=v??????+S???E?J?C?V?]

    כפולים

    lemma:/.(.)\1/ @ WestMorph [=v??????+S???E?J?C?V?]

    ע"ו

    lemma:/[א-ת][ו][א-ת]/ @ WestMorph [=v??????+S???E?J?C?V?]

    ע"י

    lemma:/[א-ת][י][א-ת]/ @ WestMorph [=v??????+S???E?J?C?V?]

This search should work for gutturals in the first root of the word:

I am looking for an efficient way to search Hebrew weak verbs (principally the ones using gutturals on the first root).

Have you looked into the Hebrew Grammatical Constructions dataset? It specifically marks Weak Verbs in the Hebrew Bible.
