Scripture Memory App
There are a few Bible Memory Apps in the App store. I was looking for some feedback from folks who may have used them or are currently using them. Any suggestions? Strengths, Weakness, etc... Seems like they would be helpful in committing the Scriptures to memory.

I'm hoping for some recommendations...
I've been eyeing up Verseminder - Topical Memory System (from Nav Press), 100 Bible Verses (based on Robert Morgan's book "100 Bible Verses Everyone Should Know) by Lifeway, MemoryVerses by Lifeway, Bible Memory Verses by Woody Hays, and Verse By heart.
That's what I've been looking at and hoping to get some feedback on one of these or another Bible Memory App that Logos users might be using.

Hi Chris,
I just bought Verseminder from NavPress and like it so far. I like that I can add my own verses to it as well as have the initial set of verses which are part of the TMS. I have tried a few other scripture memory programs, but this one seems to work well for me. It offers both flash card mode and fill in the blank mode to aid in your memory work. I haven't fully figured out all of the nuances of the program, but it is simple, effective and flexible. It fills my needs for a program.

Thanks James. I like the TMS and was interested in that App because of that. I'm glad to know you can add in your own verses. I am reading Robert Morgan's "100 verses..." and that app is a little interesting because of the fact I'm reading the book. However, it has limited translations (2 I believe) where the VerseMinder seems to have more (5 I believe) - including the ESV.

Hi Chris,
I have three apps for Scripture memory. None fit exactly what I would like, but I break down the differences:
VersePack: I use this most b/c I can import verses automatically (including ESV ) . However, this app has no drills and is ultimately a stack of notecards for your iOS device.
VerseByHeart: I like this app b/c of the drills that take away more and more words as you attempt to memorize: the downside is that you have to copy and paste passages.
FighterVerse: This is the app from Desiring God ministries. This includes the ability to drill as well. The only problem is you are locked in to 5 sets of canned passages. While they are comprehensive (and you can search by topic or passage) you are still locked in. Otherwise this is the most powerful app of the three.
Love your 'crae quote.
Best,
Will

BIble Memory Verses is free, has a number of preloaded verses in various versions plus has the ability to add your own verses. It includes flash cards and the removal of words. Did I say it was free?

I use VerseByHeart. Even though you have to type in the verse to set it up, I think that is OK since it helps me to memorize them. The developer is very responsive to questions and the drills have been helpful.

Thanks to all who have added their thoughts here. I will check out those suggestions. Keep 'em coming.
Will...I enjoy listening to Lecrae and his 1:16 clique buddies. I am amazed at the theology that these men can turn into solid music. It is also Interesting to see Lecrae in some of the printed promo material for the ESV.

is there an app that lets you put in Greek and Hebrew verses?

I use an app called “flashcards.” Its not specifically for scripture memory, but that’s mostly what I use it for. You can build different “card decks” for different topics, and you can include pictures (audio too I think). Really a great memory tool. My favorite thing about it is I can type up a card deck on my computer and transfer it over to my iphone so I don’t have to type on the tiny keyboard.

I think the best iPhone app in the market is Bible Memory. Not to be confused with Bible Memory Verses. This app is one of the more expensive ones, but it is worth every penny. It has lot's of great built in share features as well. You can share verses you memorized with loved ones or friends via email or Facebook...at the touch of a button. Very cool!

I guess Logos does not have any scripture memory features included?

It isn't in the app store yet as I'm still waiting permission from Crossway to include the ESV text, but I've an app in the works that follows the P2R memorization method proposed by Timmy Brister, useful to help when trying to memorize books of the Bible (or any other text, for that matter).
I put together some screenshots and demo vid for the Crossway folks so you can get a sneak peek at it. Nothing fancy, but hopefully helpful for some. Right now just in limbo as I wait for Crossway.

btw, I use "PocketBible" Bible app on my Windows phone and have "Memorize!", an app for Scripture memory, which I have found to be pretty useful.

Lots of info in here now. Thanks to all who posted. I appreciate the time you took to answer my question! The user forums are an example of why Logos is an exceptional product.

And another update - my app is now in the app store:

There are several apps that use a memorization technique where you can ask for a hint to reveal the first letter or each word in the verse you are trying to memorize. I think this makes it much easier to memorize verses.
Try these two apps:
Bible Verses: It's a little slow to load but has a lot of features
Daily Proverb: This uses the feature I was talking about but only shows verses from the book of Proverbs.

TruthPacker. Comes with several topically organised memory verses, or you can create your own lists. simple to add. Add mark when you reviewed verse, verses can be read outload, several translations to choose from, add the reference and it will add the verse. No need to type out the verse as with some other apps

A new version of the Fighter Verses app was released a while back that includes the ability to add ANY verse you want. The Fighter Verses app has more features than an other app and continues to regularly add more features. It's a great investment for those interested in bible memorization / scripture memory.

I don't personally have an i-pad but put a lot of scripture to music verbatum myself. Any ideas on how to share these with others? I wasn't sure about copy-right laws for scripture so didn't know how to get them out to others.

I have one called Bible Memory verses. It's really great. Has flash cards and you can even record them. They have a very long list of verses and you can put your own personal ones into your own list! It's free.

Try ScriptureTyper. I think this app has come out since this thread. I just found it this week, and I think it's incredible in terms of importing verses with ease, cloud backup for syncing with multiple devices, recording audio of reading the verses, quizzing, reviewing etc.! Check it out at:

I flicked through the Logos 5 promo video a few days ago. If I remember correctly, v5 now includes a memorization function. Someone who's upgraded may be able to confirm this for us.
A further question will be if/when that feature filters through to a phone/tablet app. But it sounds like our Logos friends appreciate customer concern for it.

The L5 tool is very good but currently only available in the full program, i.e. windows or osx version not in the mobile version.

The best memory program of any kind is Anki. It is free for desktop and I think 12.95 for iOS. It can be used for any type of memory work, not just Bible memory.
