SUGGESTION: Reading plan and lectionaries
This suggestion is proposing a design approach that meets several suggestions for reading plans and lectionaries.
- At a basic level, lectionaries and reading plans are the same - they assign readings to dates.
- Reading plans have the unique capability of being generated via rules e.g. read the NT in 3 months.
- Lectionaries have the unique capability of being generated from a generic lectionary (yes, I'm aware that Logos does not currently include the sanctoral cycle and votive readings)
- For both reading plans and lectionaries, there is a desire in the user community to be able to specify specific readings for specific days. These may be reading plans in which the divisions are logical rather than length (a person asked about 50 plans or so yesterday). Or these may be lectionaries - modifications to the generated lectionaries based on choices - optional, votive, geographical, religious order - or, as was suggested today, a personal "lectionary" i.e. sermon plan or lesson plan for a year (or other period of time)
My suggestion is a feature that is a generic date-to-reading user interface that bypasses all generation routines and allows the user to enter precisely what they want - and allows them to call it whatever they want - reading plan, sermon plan, lectionary, lesson plan, seminar class assignment readings ... It would require the base functions - add, edit, delete, plus a copy function allowing one to use a base lectionary or reading plan as the base for the new one.

Thomas, by repeating readings you are voiding one of the great advantages of a lectionary -- it covers (basically) the entire field and avoids riding one's own personal hobby horse. How many times are you going to preach on the same or similar passage. What is needed is to cover the whole of scripture. Of course, the Episcopal Church, and the Anglican Communion in general, follow a lectionary, and I say with shame that many Episcopalians really don't know the scripture. Nevertheless, a well-informed congregation must be exposed to the entire gamut.

[Y] - I want to read whole chapters except Ps 119 and use calendar dates not yesterday, today, or tomorrow because if behind or ahead it gets very confusing.
Am using a reading plan from a Seminary: OT, Poetry, & NT. Psalms 119 is an exception with verses grouped by 8 (alphabetic).

Concur - personally would like a pericope plan option along with reading view option to hide chapter and verse numbers (in Bibles of all Languages) - sometimes chapter and verse numbers are distracting - especially when pondering author's compositional thoughts and contextual flow.

Any chance Logos could go back to parsing the version 3 XML files we built to support the lectionaries Logos did not? I realize it's a subset of the features desired but it's been way more than a year since this feature was removed......it would be nice to see some urgency in replacing functionality taken away before features are added that take it that much longer to replace what we once had.
I know the answer to my question, i just thought I would post it... out of frustration.
