Discovered new feature

I just discovered that you can < double click and hold > to enable dragging the interlinear ribbon right or left - now you can easily see the words before or after the one you were looking at. Wow. I thought this would be a good feature but now it can be done.

Actually ... it doesn't work as well as I had first thought. What DOES work though is clicking on the English word within the ribbon to move the ribbon forward or backward. This way you don't have to go back to the pane with the translation you are using to continue working in the interlinear. Still very cool.

Thanks for pointing this out Ron. It actually works clicking and holding anywhere within the interlinear pane and making the gesture one way or another (right or left). Before your post I did not realize that this gesture would work on the RI ribbon. Thanks for pointing that out.

At first I was confused that it wasn't working for me. However, by playing around with it a bit I see how it works. It isn't really click and drag (a la Google Maps). It's click & hold > move mouse cursor > release and then the RI scrolls in the opposite direction. That's counter-intuitive if I'm thinking "click-drag," but you're right, this is consistent with the gesture features.

EDIT: And yes, clicking the English word centers the RI pane to that word. Also very cool.

Hi Milford,

We are talking about two things. One: the click on a word which you mention. The other: Click and hold in the ribbon space and move left or right - which (unpredictably for me) changes the ribbon setting. The click on an English word seems to be the best and fastest most predictable way of using this feature.

It works for me...sort of. There is a lag between "click and hold > move mouse cursor > release" and any action on the RI ribbon. Then it jerks, not scrolls left or right. I have a 512Mb video card; 2.5Gh Duo processor. Perhaps my hardware isn't quite up to the task.

To be absolutely precise, if you click anywhere in the interlinear ribbon, move your mouse around (optional), then the interlinear will move to the word your mouse was on when you released the button.

Ah. That makes sense of the unpredictable jerkiness. Thank you Mark. The word where the mouse ends up is the new center of the pane.

Yes, I see. but don't you have to be able to see the word you release on? If so, isn't it easier to just click on the English word you want to highlight?

In other words, is there any benefit to doing this a different way (ie- moving the mouse around)?

Not that I can see! A simple left click works fine. I was just trying to explain the exact behaviour, rather than recommend a click and drag.
