My passage guide has a section on Literary typing, reporting the genre in a hierarchial form:
Does anyone have any background on this? E.g.:
No, I've been unsuccessful in trying to get source, definitions etc. from Logos (only via the forum).
Thanks for the reply, MJ.
Lack of information does reduce the usefulness/credibility of this feature.
I second this question..... Who the heck is Mackie? |8- |
.....George M. Mackie of "Bible Manners and Customs"...perhaps???
I agree who is Mackie and what is the source of
Mackie was a Logos employee (summer intern?) who created the coding. Logos has been unable to find the documentation of the genre definitions and Mackie himself hasn't weighed in in the forums. If you know a Mackie who is a possible Logos escapee ....[;)]
I think the Literary Typing was contracted back before Logos had many in-house Bible scholars. I am almost certain that "Mackie" is Tim Mackie who has an MA from Western Seminary and an MA and PhD from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
As far as citing this in a paper, that's a good question. For something like Galatians or another NT letter, the literary typing doesn't show much that you couldn't also find from a Bible dictionary article on the letter or from the structure section of a commentary. One of those would be easier to cite. For example, the Lexham Bible Dictionary article on the Letter to the Galatians gives similar basic information about the letter's structure.
