XP Recovery Part II new questions

Now that I got my machine back up in a semi-functional state, it looks like I need to go out and get PCI network card which are fairly inexpensive and pretty easy to install. Assuming that's uneventful, I figure I might as well see about adding a PCI video card since the current rig has integrated graphics. I'm also wondering if I can somehow add more memory. When I bought it, they said it was at the max of 2 x 1 GB ram but I see higher ram cards with the same 240 pin listing. Could it be that newer cards with more memory would work or is the limitation permanent?

However, NewEgg noted 4 GB max => http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131243 (with some feedback about 3 GB RAM being available to Windows XP when 4 GB installed)

No, this is a limitation of the board. Sometimes BIOS updates can increase the maximum, but ASUS's website suggests this isn't the case.

This is a different board (note the 1333).

Accordding to the comp's mfr it's a 1333. The ram might be a long shot, if I can find some cheap enough I might give it a go. The same has been done on Mac Minis that get 3GB from 4GB cards.I probably could do a processor upgrade too, but I'm not sure I'm skillful enough to pull that one off. It would be simpler to buy a barebones kit and move on.

Accordding to the comp's mfr it's a 1333.

The Asus P5GC-MX is different from the P5GC-MX/1333. The former will only take 2Gb, the latter 4Gb.
