Hi Everyone

My be it won't be a very good question for the people those who know the system. Actually I am wondering how the logos software link each and every verse of a bible to thousands of books in my library. Have the logos software technician done it manually? or they have some other technique to do that

Hey Jain, when Logos is producing a book they manually tag the scripture references. It's very probable that Logos has scripts that the text development department uses to look for references and automatically tag them and then someone double-checks the tag for correctness and manually add the tags the automated process missed.

Of course, it's the other way around: Whenever Logos is preparing a book for an electronic edition, Bible references are being linked to the Bible. I don't know the exact procedure, but I guess it includes both scripts that convert those references into links as well as manual work to check the results. Maybe some Logos tech will give us some insight on how they work exactly sometime.

If I understood the question, the answer is:
All linking are done automatically by the program. There is no need for a manual linking (maybe one or another exception). I don't know the Logos programming code, I am just a amateur web-developer. But by my experience I understand that what happens in Logos 4 is what happens on any program that has a library, or a database. When you click on a link or search for a Bible reference or a simple word, the program runs through your library and look for matches on the search for the string. For example, if you search for the word "wedding," Logos 4 will quickly run through your library (or the range of resources you have selected) and find any text that corresponds to "wedding." Maybe, when searching for a Bible passage, Logos 4 has an indexing that will look only for any tagged text as a Bible passage, so it will not waste time looking on simple/plain text. Another example on how to "automate" the process is when you search for a Greek word, for example. In this case, the program can ignore any resource that does not deal with Greek and then search through the specific resources for that language.

Now, did the guys at Logos tagged every single Bible reference? No. If they are producing a book for Logos 4, certainly they have a script that will run through the whole book searching for Bible references. A script could have a bunch of criteria saying like "Find the words: john, acts, luke, romans, corinthians, genesis, psalms..." and then refine it with "see if after any of there words there is a space and then a number," and so on. So, the script would identify any text (string) that has a sequence that corresponds to a Bible passage. Once a Bible Reference is identified, the script would turn the plain text (e.g. John 3:16) into a tagged text (e.g. "<ref=John 3:16>). After that, I believe someone would read the entire book to ensure no references were missed (imagine that the original text may have a typo of a Bible reference).

I believe that at least 90% of the tagging are done through script. Certainly I am just scratching the surface of what they probably do. But I don't think it should be something very much different than that.
