Logos 4 Mac crash on a new MacBook Pro install

Hi,

I've installed Logos 4 Mac on a new computer, but it crashes. Is anyone able to read the logs for me and suggest what to do?

Downloaded Logos 4 Mac (4.21.50906), I believe this should be a stable release.
Started the program and signed-in.
Than a huge download (overnight) started.
After the download was done Logos 4 opened up the program, but vanished quickly thereafter.
Indexer started to download again, but a smaller amount of data.
My earth leakage tripped (too much appliances were switched on at one time) and I had to restart my computer.
Thereafter re-started Logos 4, but after a very short time it quitted again.
Via this forum followed the re-install steps (e.g. copy all resources to desktop, remove plist-files, etc.)
Re-start Logos 4 and the regular preparations (copy resources and Indexing) started, but after a while as well as Logos 4 as the Indexer crashed.
Made a copy of the logs (unfortunately I don't understand them).

As non of the log reading gurus have replied to you yet I might make a couple of suggestions.

It would seem that some thing in the index has crashed.

The problem is unlikely to be in you resources (if it is the logs will show which it is so you should only have to re-download that particular one).

I would start by re-installing the engine (you can find a link in the first post on this forum at item 5)

If you can get the new installation to start then type 'Rebuild Index' in the command line.

If possible let it run the complete rebuild without interrupting the power supply :-)

Made a copy of the logs (unfortunately I don't understand them).

Both log files have crashes:

At 20:17:19 - Logos 4 Mac crashed due to database disk image is malformed (in Logo4.log file)

At 20:34:42 - Logos 4 Indexer had an error reading a resource file: Unable to open Reverse Interlinear resource RVI:KJV1900NT

At 20:37:12 - Logos 4 Indexer crashed - could not allocate memory.

Potential common cause for both crashes is heat (interfering with reading disk). Indexing is resource intensive. Wonder about plugging in MacBook Pro along with using laptop cooler (or set laptop on a cooling rack with gentle breeze). Restart Mac - watch for blue Logos icon in menu bar - wait for blue Logos icon to disappear (Indexer completed or crashed) - open Logos 4 Mac - try a basic search. If search successful, Smile [8-|] If search fails or Logos crashes again, please upload new set of logs (suggest including copy of console messages - would like to see if other programs are getting disk errors).

For reverse interlinear error, thought about forum http://community.logos.com/forums/t/28854.aspx to redownload some Bibles. The Mac OS X resource path is /Users/username/Library/Application Support/Logos4/Data/random/ResourceManager/Resources (substitute your username for username and random is a bunch of letters & numbers).

Other option is contacting Logos Technical Support => http://www.logos.com/about/contact offices to open (Monday–Friday, 0600–1700 PT or 1400 – 0100 GMT) or email. Either way can mention this forum post.

Thanks guys for your quick reply and advices. Logos have, for many years, a reputation for their program and their library. Unfortunately it seems to me that their move to Logos 4 and the Mac platform did not establish their quality.

Mac users are not used to work for their program and have to struggle with solutions because of the program. This is/was always the task of the programmers. In other words: the user drags the program to the application folder and start using the software. Not so with Logos 4, the huge amount of questions and troubles on this forum shows this point. It would be recommendable for Logos to consider a proper way of programming. Although frustrating (for they just came so far as they did now) it takes courage and good entrepreneurship to be corrected by the demands of the market (aka Mac users): "back to the good-repuation-software".

Anyway, I was very happy with your replies. I've decided to find the easiest way. From the troubleshooting page I learned how to copy the recourses and thereafter delete Logos 4 (incl. pref's). Than I re-installed the program and let is scan the recourse folder. Then let the machine do the indexing overnight. This morning it was ready and had to download some additional software.

It's finished now and I'm hoping that my problems are over now!?
