Here's a capture of Mirriam Websters 11th Ed. Dictionary with some characters not properly displaying. Suggestions on what I should check or reset?
Jerry,
Have you already tried to reboot your system? There have been cases lately where unproper character display was solved this way.

Thanks, yes, I did the reboot thing, thinking at first it was just some missed registration of a font . . . but, no changes. I can't say this wasn't there "before" I looked up "honor," but I haven't experienced this with other lookups or in other resources, just noticed it here. I did a copy/paste into Word, preserving the formatting, and it designates a font, MS Gothic, which is installed on my system. Here's what it displays in Word . . .
: recognition 〈pay honor to our founder〉
What font are your books set to display in (EDIT: look in your Program Settings)? Most likely that font doesn't support the character that's showing up as a box.
Arial, and FWIW, I did a quick look at several other resources, e.g., BDB, TWOT, some journal articles, and all display correctly.
Anyone look up "honor" in Websters 11th and see if this displays correctly on your system?
Hmm, I pass it on to the experts ...
Displays correctly on my system!
It displays correctly on my system using the Default font and incorrectly when using Arial. Dictionaries tend to use more exotic characters than other resources so if there's a problem with a font's coverage it'll likely show up in the dictionary.
If you are running Win XP this thread could maybe solve your problem:

Do you have a recommendation for a san serif font other than Arial? Tried Verdana but it wasn't complete, many characters didn't display!
