Does anyone know what those little hash marks are in the scroll bars? I know they show links to text,
But what rhyme or reason is assigned to them, Some are thin, some are thick, some are closly space, others not -

They are "wear marks" or "visual bookmarks" - please see http://wiki.logos.com/Visual_Bookmarks
The thickness, spacing reflect where you have been reading in the resource.
