Suggestion: Add Triangles to File Menu for filtering items to Open

Reading Organising notes, reading plan, prayer list etc. thought about File Menu filtering idea for Logos 4 PC & Mac.
For example, can filter for Visual Filters by typing Visual. Wonder about adding triangles in FIle menu that can be clicked to achieve same filtering:

Adding triangles good idea, but it would have to be a separate Open menu, as the way you've drawn it here conflicts with the "New" functionality of the left side of the menu. I find that combining New/Open into one menu is non-intuitive and breaks the model that all Windows and Mac users have come to be familiar with.

If triangles under New menu, would expect that hovering mouse on New item with triangle pointing right would cause Open list to be filtered by file type (similar to right triangle menu usage in Mac & PC programs to pop-up menu with related items).
For grins, modified mock up with triangles on right side of line under Open. Also thought about triangle changing to point down after being clicked to show filtering.

Oh, I was thinking you meant to click on triangles instead of hovering. The File menu still definitely needs some work. The fact that we aren't in agreement on how to improve it shows what a hard problem it is to get this right so that the majority users will be pleased with it rather than confused or annoyed. I appreciate that good user design is often challenging. That's why I never wanted to do it myself.

Concur intuitive design is challenging; mock up pictures good for discussion since various implementations are possible.

How about following the Mac UI guidelines. I think they have a little experience designing GUIs. At least on the Mac side it seems like you follow the UI guidelines unless you have a incredibly good reason not to. The very existence of this discussion topic seems to indicate that Logos doesn't have an incredibly good reason to NOT follow the guidelines for Mac apps.
