Dragging scripture links

I had a question answered today regarding how scripture links are added to my notes (in canonical order). (Thank you, fgh.)

This helpful person suggested that it might "confuse" my computer (we have both a PC and a Mac) if I drag these links to the place in my notes which coincide with that reference. But this is where I want the link to appear in my notes. Is it really going to confuse the computer if I drag these references???? I don't want to slow down the processing of information I am seeking or what I am writing.

Let me explain what I hope to accomplish.....When sharing discussion questions during my bible study small group, I want to be able to pull up the link to that passage as we discuss. I know that this is easily done by typing in the reference. (When it is blue, it will show up when the cursor hovers or go to the passage when clicked upon.)

But....my desire if to be able to go right to the place in my notes when I find this link connected to a different study or set of notes while I am studying or researching. Am I asking too much of the LOGOS program?

It sure seems to me that having the links in the body of a document is preferable to having them at the top, with only a few of them appearing in the preferred location.....if they just happen to be further along in canonical order.

Being new to LOGOS, I'd really appreciate the advice of longtime users.

I'm sorry but I can't grasp what you are trying to do and what doesn't work for you.

Could you try and explain it again - with maybe some pictures to help (how to include pictures is explained at http://wiki.logos.com/Screenshot

However, if a note has a Bible link within the text of the note you cannot jump directly to the link. However, if you do a search on you entire library, Logos will tell you that the links within the note contents exists ... it just jumps to the note not the precise location within a note. To the best of my knowledge there is no way to override this behavior.

Like I said before, there is no problem whatsoever if you drag the notes to where you want them after you have otherwise finished working on the note file. It's just that every time you add a new note, the computer looks at your first note to see if the new note should be placed before or after that one in order to turn up in the right canonical order. Only if the new note should be placed after, does it then go on to check if it should be before or after the second note, and so on. So if the first note comes from one of the last books of the Bible, and you keep dragging your new notes to other places in your file while you're still working on it, then almost every new note is going to turn up at the top (unless it comes from Rev or so).

That's all I meant by "confused": that the computer can't figure out a true canonical order to put things in, when you're not writing your document in canonical order, so it simply tries to place the new note as best it can. It won't get confused in any other way -- it won't "slow down the processing of information" or anything -- it just won't be able to figure out where you want the new note. Other than that you can drag all you want, during or after -- just, like you said, it's hard to find time for dragging while you're taking notes from a sermon, so for that reason I suggested you just write down the references, and then arrange the notes the way you want them afterwards.

I hadn't used this feature on my PC before but it worked just fine. Here is the snapshot you requested to give you a better idea of what I am asking.

While note taking during sermons at church, I like to insert the scripture links directly into my notes. (I have sermons scripture links color coded GREEN.) The green boxes are noted in the actual passage so that when I come across this scripture again, I know I have made a note on this passage during one of the sermons at church. Having it in my notes also allows me to hover over the link to bring up the passage in a box.

My trouble is that when I find the scripture and copy the link to my document (right click and add reference to my notes) the link is not inserted where I would like it to be.......right where I am note taking at the time. Most of the time the link appears earlier in my document. (I learned today that the links will appear in canonical order.....so for this sermon on Romans 12, every scripture link comes before Romans, in biblical order, will be inserted before the Romans 12 link.

I have been trying to drag the links to the proper location during my note taking, but this is a huge hassle! I find I am sometimes missing an important point from the pulpit when I am trying to drag my link to the right spot.

I realize that I can just type the reference in my notes and go back later to add the links, or even set up the links, type the reference in my notes and do the dragging later. It would just be much easier if you could add the link in the location of your choice without dragging it at all. I'm trying to see if anyone has a way of doing this....a shortcut or a trick for inserting in a specific location.

If you do this, it will automatically link. I looked at your picture and don't understand your problem.The references sort into canonical order only if you make separate notes for them. If the problem is that you want to find the notes by note icon rather than search there is no solution for your problem. If you simply want the link, just type the reference in your notes.

It seems like I'm not understanding you but I honestly don't understand what you are trying to do that creates the problem for you.

Kathy, I think the issue is you are viewing a Notes file as a long document into which you can insert links from Scripture, when that isn't really how it is implemented in Logos. A single Notes file is a collection of notes, each of which is linked to a particular place in Scripture, and they are in canonical order. Think of them more like footnotes in a study Bible than a single document for taking notes about a multi-verse passage. You insert each note within the notes file by right clicking a Scripture reference in your Bible and adding a new note to that notes file. It will be linked to the particular verse you clicked on. Then in that note you type your comments about that note. It's not really designed for taking more general notes on a sermon. Does that make sense?

If your pastor is preaching on a particular passage, you could select that whole passage in your Bible, right click on it, insert a note (which would cover that whole passage) and then type your sermon notes into that one note. But then if your pastor went off on a tangent and mentioned some other scripture reference from elsewhere, and you wanted to include his comments about that verse, you'd have to insert another note linked to that scripture reference.

An alternative that might work better for you is to do your sermon notes in an unlinked note (created using the "Add Note" button instead of right-clicking in the Scripture passage). And then whenever you want to refer to a particular verse that the pastor is talking about, just type that verse reference right into the note text, and Logos will automatically turn it into a link back to that scripture reference.

I'll leave this thread, since I don't think there is anything more I can contribute, but before I do: if anyone else wants to try and help, I think you should read the first thread first, which provides some background. Kathy's problem, as I understand it, isn't getting links from her sermon notes to the Bible references -- that would be easy: just type them in -- the problem is that she also wants links (note icons) from the Bible references back to the sermon note file -- and she wants those new notes to turn up at the very places in the sermon notes where the pastor has mentioned those references, and not in canonical order (which in this case usually means at the top). I don't know of any way to do that currently, except by dragging, and I don't think there is one.

The reason I understood the problem (if I do..?), is because I've had a similar one. I have a note file in liturgical order, which also means new notes turn up anywhere but where I want them, and I have to keep dragging them around. Very annoying. Especially on Mac, with the notes issues there. Though at least I don't have to do it while trying to listen to a sermon...

I don't think there is one.

You are correct which is why we need to be able to connect a note to multiple passages or at least search on "My Content" without searching the entire library. I assume you know that you can now link a note to a liturgical date.
