Will I lose any resources in the upgrade?
Can anyone tell me if I will lose any resources I already have (I have Scholars Silver) in 3.0? I was a customer back in 2.1 days and have some licenses that carried over to 3.0 that were not included in the base packages (like BAGD and Barclay). I'm considering upgrading to one of the base packages of Logos 4, but do not want to lose any resources that were included before and I have already paid for.

I have version 4.0, and it has maintained my LLS 2.0, LDLS 2.0, LDLS 2.1, and LDLS 3.0 licences. The only books you should lose are the lbxoeb files (LDLS help files and Personal Book Builder). PBB's should be supported at a later date.

Can you do a clean install with the update DVD? I have books going back to LLS 2 (Barclay) that I want to keep. When I replace or upgrade a computer (just installed Windows 7 and love it) I usually install just the latest DVD I have(3.0c), Sync Licenses, Copy books files and items in My Documents from a backup, and let Logos update (I know someone uploaded a script to do backups and restores). Everything works and I don't have any older files or program versions left on the computer (I end up with 3.0f). Can you do something like this with Logos 4?

Logos 4 doesn't read old LLS files, but we've got newly built versions of almost all of them. (If you find one we missed, let us know.)
(We DO read the old LSF/LIX books, though we have built newer editions for almost all of them.)
You can install Logos 4 on a clean machine, and it will sync your licenses. Any books it doesn't find on its own DVD it will automatically download from our master resource server. It's the easiest way yet to set up on a new system and still have all your books!

Oh good. I remember with the Logos 3, I had to dig up all my old disks everytime I do a re-install because there are one resources or two on the old disk that's not on the new disk, and then have to worry on whether I got everything because of all the downloaded resources also. This would save a lot of hassle.

I think I have about 17GB under ../resources . Are most of these resource files usable as is, or do they all have to be upgraded to the new version? I did order the DVD-based upgrade, but that can't have all the resources. Should I expect many days of downloading?

You all keep on saying that, but my Oxford Bible Commentary has been readable since Beta 1. It isn't listed as a commentary in resource type so it doesn't show up in the reports like it should, but it is readable.

First, Logos4 won't download any PBB files. Don't know how much of the 17BG is PBB's, but there could be some there. Nor will you have to download any help files. Nor does Logos for read LLS files (though almost all have been converted to LBXLLS or Logos4 resources by now).
Second, Logos4 should automatically scan your LDLS resource folder and pull in resources from there. You will only download what's been rebuilt for L4, or what's been updated since your last resource update.
But you can expect a large download. It's just that it probably won't be the full 17GB.

I am assuming that you are talking about LDLS 3.0 resources. Logos 4 will make its own copy of them in a separate directory and DL updates for anything it can find a more recent version, either in lbxlls or logos4 format. On my machine, my old version 3 has about 6.8 GB of resources. My Logos 4 is about 3.5 GB of lbxlls files and 3.9 GB of logos4 and 2.2 GB of other stuff (Syntax, Media, etc.)
To the best of my knowledge, ALL resources available in any base package have been updated to the new format. In addition there have been a few files, especially bibles that have been updated as well.

That's great, I've been hoping Logos would implement an automatic download of missing books. Looking forward to recieving the platinum upgrade DVD .

Yes, I do. Logos4 indexing is faster and smarter, and (after the initial indexing is done) you can use the program while indexing is running (though it does slow a few things down, and some things don't work until indexing is finished). Further, when you add books, you don't have to re-index the whole library each time. Logos4 will build a supplementary index that you can "Merge" (i.e., optimize) later (like when you're not using your computer for something else).
The first time you index it will take a very, very long time -- especially if you have a large number of resources. Reverse Interlinears take an exceptionally long time. In some cases this can take a few hours. So be prepared. Also be thankful. Through the beta process, the time for indexing has decreased dramatically, and incremental and background indexing were implemented. That saves hours of indexing time as well as giving hours of usability.

UPDATE: It's doing it now. Took a total 45 min. to appear for me so this must be a traffic issue at Logos.com.

I have a CD from Galaxie software that had Early Church Fathers, Calvin's Commentaries, and some more. Not sure of their format/extension.
I can see Calvin's Commentaries in the library. I cannot, however, seem to find it as a commentary in my passage guide.
Is this an issue with the older files?

Jason type update now in the command bar and then close and restart L4 and wait a bit to see if an update comes through. I read earlier that they had fixed some compatibility issue for E4 - I don't know if it's related but it wouldn't hurt.

Take a look at the Calvin Commentaries in My Library. Check to see what resource TYPE they are. My guess is that it is listed as a Monograph instead of a Commentary. That is my problem with the Oxford Commentary, at least. Logos can update this "metadata" without a resource update and are trying to do so, but they have been rather focused at getting 4.0 ready to go out the door and there are still some inconsistencies.

Yes. These commentaries are being redone (if they ever get out of pre-pub), and will presumably work with L4 better than the old ones. They may not be properly tagged as commentaries, which is why they aren't showing up in the commentary section. But you can always open them directly from the Library browser.
