BUG? Scrolling jumps by page in Column view

When scrolling the text with a Wacom tablet with Columns set to "none" text scrolls smoothly. However, when columns is set to anything else, text scrolls in "Page Up\Down" mode, so small adjustments are not possible.

Is this expected behaviour, or a bug?

Thanks

It is expected in that you you are getting Paged View as per Release Notes 4.2a:-

    Column choice

    • Replaced “Paged view” option with “Columns: None, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5
Auto,” enabling users to choose the number of columns of text to display
      in resources.

Maybe renaming "Paged view" to "Columns" introduced this level of confusion about the expected scrolling behavior that wasn't there before.

This is the same on the Mac and it is really annoying. The concept of vertical scrolling has no validity in paged/column view – it needs to be disabled and replaced with horizontal page turning preferably in one page per swipe increments. After all we don't even have a scroll bar to help us guess where in the book the program has dumped us.

Agreed. There is a  horizontal scroll by page capability already, though it's using the tiny left/right arrow buttons at the lower right, which people might not notice. Sweeping motion would be useful.

Windows version does have a (vertical) scroll bar, but the thumb position is random in paged/column view, and dragging it anywhere just deposits you at the beginning of the resource, so it isn't very helpful. [EDIT: That might be a newly introduced bug, though. I seem to recall there was no vertical scroll bar when paged view was first introduced.]
