New Mac on the way! Questions...

Hi,

I use Logos 4 on my PCs and I just bought a new 17" MacBook Pro.  Can I just install the Logos 4 on my Mac like I do L4 for Windows or do I need to buy something to use it on a Mac?

The new machine is not here yet and I have never used a Mac, so if I sound like a dullard in my replies, it's because I am - at least when it comes to Apple hardware and OSX.

Thank you!

Install the free L4 Mac version, sign in and begin the download and index process. Come back if you have any questions or problems. No additional costs, all your resources should come over.

Two places to go: the first is for your Logos program file to get started; the second is for helpful shortcuts:

It mostly is as simple as logging in the only issue you might have is if you are a longtime Logos user and have older files that have been discontinued, I for example have one item, only in logos 2 format (.LIX .LSF) and a few Libronix (Logos 3 .lbxlls) files, if these are not on the server you need to manually copy them over. So if something is missing that is the most likely reason. Have fun with your new mac :)

Logos licenses Library resources per human.  Hence, Logos 4 purchase includes Logos 4 Mac, Logos 4 PC, and Logos application on iOS devices (iPad, iPhone, & iPod Touch).  Logos is developing Android application(s) to freely complement Logos 4.  How many devices you want to use for your Library is your choice.  Caution: actively using Logos 4 on 2 computers at the same time can have sync surprises (can sync and switch without issue).

Wiki Quick Installation onto Multiple Macs page has Copy Logos 4 Resources to Mac OS X (Supported – saves resource downloading) section; have option to copy PC Resources to Mac and use Logos 4 scan command to discover and copy resources to your Mac Logos4 folder (restart Logos 4 Mac after entering scan command).

Wiki Logos 4 Mac page has Need Logos 4 PC feature? section since can run Windows on a Mac in a virtual machine or natively via Boot Camp.

Wiki Mac and PC User Interface Differences page has Feature Parity section that lists known features in Logos 4.2a on PC that are not yet in Logos 4.2a on Mac.

Wiki Logos 4 Mac page has Mini FAQ section that includes "New to Mac OS X ?" (has links to several Apple web pages).

    Hi

Welcome to the forum and the mac world.

Just to add that if you go the long route. That is downloading the Mac Engine and then allowing your resources to download and index from the Logos servers this can take a long time.

It may well be best to start it off just before going to bed and see how it is in the morning.

It is the way I would go myself - although it takes some time it does mean that all the files you have have been cleanly supplied by Logos and you haven't inadvertently transferred anything extraneous across.

    Hi.

I would recommend using the latest stable version of L4Mac at the moment, at least until Beta 3 (eventually [;)]) arrives.

I use Parallels Virtual Machine to run Windows 7 and the L4 software (and OneNote and MS Access). I find that the performance of L4 under Parallels is slightly better than the 'native' L4Mac at the moment. If you are into Beta, the PC Beta is far more stable, especially with resource downloads.

If you have an external drive, I would also copy your resource folder from your windows installation onto it, install L4Mac, and then use the scan command. See the wiki for more details (Many thanks to the many contributors). The one bit that I stumbled over was the path names. Instead of, for example, F:\<folder name> you use /Volumes/Volume Name/<folder name> where it is always '/Volumes'.

The Volume name will appear in Finder (think Windows Explorer) and possibly also your desktop (I cannot remember the OS X defaults). After you connect an external drive to your mac, it will appear in finder ( click on the two tone smiley face icon at the bottom), and possibly your desktop as well.

I hope you enjoy your new toy! I made the jump last Easter to a 17" MBP and have never looked back.

Wow!  Thanks for all of the help!

I'll have to go back and digest all of that when the MBP shows up.
