Choosing between Kindle version and Logos version of a book

"Well-Driven Nails: The Power of Finding Your Own Voice" seems a be a good book in Pre-pub. But it's out of collections and it's 11.95 for 124 pages.

How can you choose?

This book is just a good book to read. It may get into some collection on preaching later. But to pay more only for sake of searching in Logos - what a hard choice :-)

I will always choose a Logos book if the book has a lot of Biblical references (for the hover and search features). I will also choose Logos for all reference books. For books that have neither a lot of biblical references nor research value, I will go with the cheapest option.

This reminds me... Last weekend I was reading into my paper copy of Bruce Milne's commentary "the message of John" in the "Bible speaks today" series http://www.logos.com/product/8587/the-bible-speaks-today-new-testament and I literally wrote into the margin "thank God for Logos!" - Bruce uses a number of footnotes per page, consisting of say half a dozen bible verse references (yes, references, not quotations!) , in addition to the in-text references. So, it was worthwile to buy the logos version even though I own part of the BST-series in paper.

On the other hand, I could read this paper book on the terrace in glaring sunlight - no chance for my notebook or any electronic display (I don't own a kindle yet). However, people that switch between iPad, iPhone, eBook-reader and various PCs in home and office may choose to buy a cross-plattform resource rather than a paper version even for recreational reading. "Logos on the Kindle DX" would be a very interesting thing for the future, to combine the best of all the three usage patterns.

I buy the Logos if possible and convert to kindle that way I have access to the refrences and all the popup footnotes, searching, ect but I am also able to take it to the deck and read it in the sun. [:D]

In such a situation you need to consider whether it has much in the way of links to other works and whether you would be using it in your notes. If it doesn't have many links and if you won't be using it in notes, buy the cheaper Kindle version. You can download a sample from the Kindle site to help in determining. Of course, if it does have links and / or if you will be using it in notes, buy the Logos version.

How does copy and paste work on the Kindle [for PC] [is there a Kindle for MAC available on the MAC?] That is what if you want to quote something - does the Kindle software allow you to copy and paste the text? [Have Kindle for PC and Nook PC but for books that I tried copy did not seem to work]

I am checking how it works in Kindle for PC.

As for physical Kindle, it saves all underlinings and notes you made during your work with the text.

If the book is purchased from Amazon, the notes are synced through kindle.amazon.com

If the book is copied over USB cable and external to Amazon, you still have the file "My Clippings.txt" in "documents" folder of Kindle, which you can copy to your computer and use.

It's plain text - thanks to Amazon.

This way, you can mark a large portion of text and have it available later in your file.
