Wish I could sort the Library by Logos indexes available

Per chance I discovered that several of the volumes in Shcaff's edition of the Church Fathers are Bible Indexed! This means I can have Logos scan them in a Commentary section of a Passage Guide. For the moment I have tagged them as part of a subtype of commentaries. (See below.)

I wonder for what other books Logos built Bible indexes, that may not be obvious? This is one of the reasons why I wish we could sort the library display by how a book is Logos indexed. I would think this is an easy feature to implement.

P.S. I am still thinking about how to subdivide my commentaries. These will probably move to another subdivision later.

[:$] Well that is how I found most the commentaries. I must have pre-tagged Schaff and therefore missed this. It would still be nice to have the ability to sort by Logos index. I will now check to see if I missed any others with type:Bible Commentary.

The list of resources in Library are probably read from the Catalog.db. And Indexes for each resource are not stored there. So it would probably require Logos to add a new field in their database. i suspect that the Indexing of each resource is stored in the individual resource files.

Still knowing which have the headings indexed vs. just the large text would be helpful.

Frank, To give yourself something to go by, try typing something like this in your library search window (better yet copy & paste it). No promises of a complete list, or that it is entirely accurate. There may be (and probably is) a better way. It will still contain commentaries, but it is a manageable list of books with a Bible index, other than commentaries.

Observation: Records table in Catalog.db has MilestoneIndexes column with ';' between index names (and numerical coding). Noticed 8 rows in Records table with author "Schaff, Philip" contain "bible" in MilestoneIndexes and ReferenceSupersets columns. For Bible indexes, appears ReferenceSupersets column has range of books, chapters, and verses for that resource.

Caution: be careful when looking at database files. Good idea to copy folder with interesting database file(s) outside your Logos 4 folder before opening (e.g. LibraryCatalog folder has Catalog.db file).

Ok, got those. So the Pseudepigrapha is items are also Bible indexed.

Interestingly the Philo and Holy Scripture Apparatus, although it is type:apparatus, is not included in the Apparatuses section of the Exegetical Guide when there are matching verses.

You need to check Resource Information (i) opposite Indexes. The type field is not completely reliable in this regard. If it appears to be missing an Index (eg Bible) then report it under the appropriate heading.

Yes, I have been doing a LOT of that! That is why I was hoping for a way to get it to show in the library pane. Now that I have done it for Bible indexed (versified) resources, I think I want to assign some tags based on other types of indexes like the language headwords. My guess is that over time we will get additional types of indices. These can be used for powerful and constrained searches if one can easily identify which resources, out of 1,000's, have that index.

I agree that this could be helpful. I occasionally stumble across dictionaries that have sections with commentaries in them and so on.

If you're comfortable in SQLite, you could open %localappdata%\Logos4\Data\{random}\KeyLinkManager\keylinkmanager.db and perform the following query:

SELECT ResourceId FROM Resources, DataTypeMilestoneIndexes WHERE Id=Resource AND DataType Like '%bible%'

The problem is that produces only ResourceId (you can type them into your command bar to open them). It would be possible to construct query that gave the full name, but that would involve multiple databases.

When I try to construct something like this, I will be sure to do it on a copy of the Logos4 folder!

Now if we could get out good buddies at Logos to do this for us that would be wonderful.

I am sure not many of us attempt to organize our libraries at this level, but doing so certainly makes the engine and the resources more useful. When I find that I can use a large library efficiently then I am much more likely to add resources to my library. On the contrary, if I cannot make good use of what I have, I will be disinclined to add more resource$.
