Using PBB with Logos

I use a Mac, but have Parallels 6 with Windows. As odd as it may sound for those that use Macs, the PC version of Logos 4 is a far better program! I don't mind using the Windows version for now..

I was told by Logos that PBB use already existed for Windows, my first project is to get Calvin PBB commentaries up and running. It seems Logos 4 does not have it at all - even the PC version. (I bought the Scholar's.) The phone operator (I wish I knew her name) said if I bought Logos and installed the PC version I could use the Still collection of PBB files.

Do I understand this right, that I'd have to install Logos 3 to make these usable? Does that then somehow submit the books to Logos 4?

Any help, obviously appreciated. I'd love to use these public domain resources!

Yes, can use Libronix 3 to read PBB's & No, older PBB's are not available to Logos 4.

Logos Support has Libronix 3 page => http://www.logos.com/3/support including Download the Latest Version (3.0g) (can follow directions for new installation in Windows).

If Windows has Internet Explorer 9, then a fix is needed for Libronix 3 => Fix for IE9 with LDLS3 and http://www.logos.com/support/windows/LDLS-IE9

Wiki has Re-install resources for Libronix 3 with Libronix 3 update scripts for base packages. Orders page => https://www.logos.com/user/orders has "Downloadable Libronix Files" section, can click order #, then click "Download Instructions for Previous Versions", followed by clicking "Unlock" to download update script for order. Running update script in Windows adds resource license to Libronix 3 and downloads resource file(s).

Yes, you'll need Logos 3 (aka "Libronix") to use the old PBB files. And no it won't submit the books to Logos 4. The new version of Personal Book Builder for Logos 4 has been under development for some time but is not quite ready yet (though we're expecting it in a beta version sometime soon). It is not likely going to be able to read the older PBB files without the original sources for them being recompiled, which will be up to the PBB file creators (if they are still around and still have the source documents). We've been told that the new Logos 4 version of PBB will be "Improved to use the native book format!" -- though we can only speculate as to what capabilities we'll be able to put into these that native Logos books can do.

By the "Still collection of PBB files" I think you mean the ones on the StillTruth.com website. Here's the PBB file repository there: http://www.stilltruth.com/page/libronix_pbb_files

So I've gone through step one, now on step two. It had three sections show: Required, Recommended, Optional. There was so much to choose from, wasn't sure what to change - so I left it.

It seems it's installing an entire new system of Logos, just so I can get to PBB books. I sure hope the basic goodies will carry over eventually to Logos 4. It must not be my entire Scholar's install, as it's finishing very quickly.

So next IE9 fix and then reinstall update script, I'll keep along your instructions.

I see each single downloadable Libronix resource, there are LOTS of them. Is there a way to grab all that belongs to me in one single download to install? Is it possible to simply have Logos 3 update itself properly, with all that I'm licensed to use for Logos 3?

I tried both the LE and KF Resources scripts (for Scholar's, which is the package I purchased), both failed with Error code: 7. One of them I recorded, it says it failed to download file ftp://ftp.logos.com/lbxbooks/CALTGCGS.lbxlls.

Any ideas for next step?

Jacques ... that error is not unusual. When the download script hits a bad file, it simply stops rather than continuing with the next files. If you run the update again but un-check this error-msg resource, it'll continue ... though potentially hitting another one, ... but eventually you can get almost all updated. I've done this quite a bit, keeping track of the problem resources, and then manually downloading them from the Logos ftp site.

So let me take a stab at this: Once I finally get through the entire script, I can find the resources that hit errors within my Accounts / Orders section - and just download the Libronix resource there.

So how do you match up the filename to the title? The installer just shows title, it's a bit tough. How many of these are broken, in your experience?

I remember also, once it finished trying and failed - it removes ALL the update effort. So basically, is it true that I'm hitting the failures so I can uncheck all the problem files to finally get a single install that will work? Do these caches of downloads remain or get cleaned up?

It's still churning away now, waiting to see what happens.

This script is bad. I've come across way too many files that aren't downloading and just product Error 7s.

Does anyone know who created it? Is there someone that can fix the script? Did all of you guys use this script?

The only alternative I can see, is to download each individual file and manually install each one. That would probably take hours to do. Has anyone else found a faster way?
