Yes, from me too. I can't imagine spending $2,180 for Logos resources and not ending up with the ICC or some other really incredible stuff. For me the dollars and what I'd get for them simply don't add up at all. In fact as I look at what I'd even want in the Portfolio offering I don't need to worry about temptation nor future regret in not even considering the purchase.

Didn't Logos just add your country to their list of paymant plan eligibility? If it is, go through the checkout (CLICK SLOWLY & CAREFULLY.) Right before "confirm order" there should be an option for full payment and payment plan. Look at the right side column. Choose payment plan to see the options. Be sure not to confirm by accident! If it does not appear it must not be available. Remember to back out of the order process and empty your shopping cart to avoid suprises.

Me too. Portfolio is a temptation that's really easy to resist because there's simply nothing there I don't already own that I would want. When I saw the price tag I was hopeful that as I scrolled down I'd find ICC or NICOT/NT or something like that.

I'm quite surprised by the jump from Platinum to Portfolio as well. Currently, I have Scholars Gold and I have added things like Baker's Exegetical, and Baker's N.T. Commentary, etc. My customized option shows Gold - $161.50; Platinum - $425.04; Portfolio - $2,480.04. My entire Professional Budget for the year is only a little more then that price. I wonder how many pastors, students, or missionaries can afford that package? Clearly this package is designed for the Pastors with the multi-million dollar budgets and the mega church offerings rather then the average pastor in the average church. I am sure I will upgrade to at least the Gold and I will have to look at what's available in Platinum to see if there is $400 worth of stuff that was on my Logos wish list. However, having just purchased the NICOT/NICNT as well as waiting on the Pradis/Logos discount. I'm not sure what is going to be left for anything more then that.

Platinum would only cost me $232. However there is only $100 of stuff I'd want in that package. There are only 26 items I'd get in the upgrade. Some are sets or collections so the number of works is much larger than that. Don't want Believer's Bible Commentary, Simeon, Classic Greek Commentaries. No offense, please, but those are second or third tier sets to me. At one time the Classic were the best available. No longer. Horae?? No time to wade through that. Dated indeed. Pillar, BE, and BNT are better and I have them. Eerdman's Dictionary of the Bible is good, but I have Baker's Encyclopedia, Anchor-Yale, both ISBEs, New Bible, and some others. The Bible Made Easy should have been in the Christian Home or Bible Study Library. It's not an upgrade for a Pastor, Seminarian, Professor or anyone who is already at the Gold level IMO.

I don't have the Baker Enc. of Counseling. Might be interested in that but passed it up in pre-pub. Don't want Pink, Torrey, Bunyan, and even Berkouwer. The numerous texts from the Biblical Essentials Collection are lay oriented. I am not interested in the history of the Oxford Movement nor its theology. Maybe I should be. Sorry. Bernard? Wouldn't pay much for him. Apostle's Creed (Swete) nope. The Apostolic Fathers? I have Lightfoot and the entire church fathers collection. Would I be missing something important? Robertson's grammar might be nice, but not too needed. Passed up on pre-pub. Concise Coptic-English Lexicon?? I don't know Coptic. Maybe I should? What Logos resource is in Coptic that is included in Platinum?? Why would I need a lexicon for a language I have no resources for? What is this doing here? Konfused.

Oh, well. It was nice to get a chance to look. I know others clearly have different resources to start with or will find many of these more compelling than I do. I'm grateful to have what I do.

I have really been blessed by Horae. That was a worthwhile purchase at full price. Not a great academic tool, but man if you are looking to just sit down and hear from a guy who loved God as he is impacted by the Word...sweet stuff. Horae turned into one my favorite resources.

I too thought the Portfolio upgrade was incredibly steep. But after looking more closely at the resources, they seem to be geared towards the technically minded uber-scholar. So that may help explain the steep price.

For example, I doubt many pastors, especially those of multi-million dollar churches, will ever need or use the Ugaritic Library for any sermons.

I've had Logos for only a little more than a year, so my collection is not as developed. In the Platinum that's not in L3 Gold, I have only Baker's NT Commentary (Hendriksen/Kistemaker) Therefore, BECNT and Pillar alone more the justify the upgrade to L4 Platinum. The rest will be bonus material.

There comes a point, though, which is hard for me to justify going higher, and everyone's needs are different. The Platinum seems to be about right for me. I just need Logos to slow down on completing some of the pre-pubs. [:D]

I, too, thought the price to go to Portfolio was a little high, since I, too, already owned many of the big dollar important books. Then I thought about it a bit.

I was a beta tester for the original Logos Bible Study Software in Windows 3. I paid next to nothing for any Logos resources for many, many years. Then I started making a little money and I started buying resources. I'm a hobbyist, I guess you could say, not a professional. I had a pretty good library of the stuff I really wanted going into Logos 4. I forget how many books in my library, but I'm thinking it was around 1700.

I could have upgraded from Gold (my official base) to Platinum for not very much money. It was going to cost me about 1500 to go to Portfolio. I looked through the list and saw several books that would be nice to have. Not sure it was quite 1500 worth.

But I did it anyway. Why? I'm considering it a support offering (in part) for the tremendous work that this company has done over the years and which I enjoy daily. I just dropped the cash and never looked back. As far as I'm concerned, it is money well spent. Maybe I'm just finally paying for all the books I get way back when for nothing.

Simeon is worth every penny. And you get the BDAG in this Platinum bundle. The neat thing about Simeon is that covers the whole Bible. And I would agree that he's one of my favorites to read. His commentaries are not on every verse., but I almost always open his commentaries up to see if he said anything on a passage. I'm very curious to read some of Pink's stuff too, and it certainly helps to get the Pillar commentaries. I think it's a great deal.

Right and that is an essential resource if you are going to work in Greek. I got that years ago and the update to the 3rd edition when it came out.

Seems there are a lot of appreciators of Simeon here. I have looked at him on Google books I believe and thought: man can I spend this much more time? He has a lot to say when he has something to say it seems. Perhaps I need to reconsider that one.

I'll save my $240 or so dollars and use them along the way for something else that pops up on pre-pub.

It wasn't long ago when new pubs were coming out one at a time. I rarely had to worry about signing up for a pre-pub and having to pass on something better later.

Now new pubs are billowing out of Bellingham (lyric, isn't it?) and as much as we'd like to take advantage of the great pre-pub pricing we can't do it on all of them. Still I am glad Logos has released so much that is of genuine substance and importance in the past couple of years, esp. on the commentary front which was a weak area.

Glad you could move up to Platinum but sorry you had to pass on NIC.

Simeon's sermon outlines are extremely well organized and written. You can easily read over the entire sermon in a moments time by scanning over the outline headings and then dig deeper into particular portions that you find most interesting. Some are longer than others, and in comparison, they are much shorter than Spurgeon's sermons.

How really practical is that collection. I have the silver and it is hard for me to fathom getting through all of it in a lifetime. But at the price, I was hoping Bob or Dale would come install it for me in person.

Actually the price is a discount compared to buying all of that individually but I would never do that since most of what is on the list is not useful to me. I will be getting the NICOT/NT soon though.

This is just for information really, because Like many of us I feel that Logos has served us well in the past and have every confidence for the future.

I have just upgraded from Gold to Platinum. While examining the portfolio collection I found some resources that I would like so I added those as well (I had an upgrade budget that the generous platinum pricing did not exceed).

Returning to the 'upgrade' page the price for the Portfolio collection had been reduced by exactly the cost of the platinum upgrade (to be expected) BUT the $300 of other resources that I had purchased, all of which are part of the portfolio collection, made no difference to the price. In other words, there was no discount at all for my now having a larger chunk of the portfolio package, not even 1% of the original costs.

As I said, this is for information only. Like others I found that the contents of the portfolio seem to be an eclectic mix between the 'uber scholars' and the needs of the new Christian, so I had already determined that the portfolio was never going to be on my list and my best course was to focus on the judicious use of the pre-pubs. The Platinum package seems to meet my needs very specifically, thank you again Logos.
