I haven't noticed any DL's myself today. I would recommend turning on logging per: http://community.logos.com/forums/t/2933.aspx to see what's up in the LogosIndexer log.

Edit: I just received a short DL of what appears to be resources. It is preparing my library as I type. OK, it was GESENLEX for me... Reindexing...

On all three of my computers, Logos 4 has been downloading and asking for a restart all day yesterday and all day today. I really cannot guess at how many times this has happened on each machine so far. At least 15-20.

The downloads are not the same size. Sometimes 35mb sometimes 60. Right now it is downloading 46.9mb.

I was a Beta tester and everything was up to date. Am I missing something?

Please enable logging and send us a set of log files that were created while this problem is occurring. What would be most helpful is to run the program once, then, when you are prompted to restart Logos 4 to install resources, make a copy of the current log files. Then restart, which will generate new log files. Zip up both copies (of both Logos4 and Logos4Indexer logs), post them here, and we'll take a look.

The instructions are in the thread I linked to you, but basically, Logging is turned off by default. Turn it back on using the JS files Logos provides. Then look at the log files they create.

The command "Update Now" is your friend.

Your program will only check once every 24 hours for an update. But you can manually check.

When I click on the JS files, it just opens a long script in another browser tab. Is that correct behavior? I will check the logs. The downloads are still on endless loop. The last few have been 35.1mb each.

This sounds like the wrong result. The beta thread said that you often have to save the JS file on your computer and run it from there.

The script won't fix your downloads, just enable logging. And it should load in a browser.

I am losing my mind for two reasons:

1) I ran the script from the computer, and got a message that said logging had been turned on. I also followed Bradley's instructions above to restart before sending the logs. But the logs have remained unchanged. The last date they have is 10-26.

2) I have attached files before, but for the life of me I cannot figure out or remember how to do that. I do not see an option to attach a file.

I cannot stop this cycle no matter what. Now the same 35.1mb download is going over and over. I assume it is the same download because of the size. No real way to know. But that has happened now about 8 times in a row.

I have stopped the download a couple of times and that does not help either.

I think you need more official Logos support than us fellow users, frankly. I looked over the log files, and it looks like it is trying to update a bunch of CAL Targum files. You seemed to have stopped the DL during the DL for the log you sent.

Logos 4 is designed to basically install over an internet connection. A DVD will save you some online time with your initial download, but even if you order the DVD version, Logos 4 can and will install itself without it.

Still prefer a hardcopy for something you pay more than 2k to upgrade.... How big is the average downoad? Does it overwrite ver 3 in the process or both version can be install side by side?

Both versions exist side by side, but each will have a separate resource directory, which can get a bit big. Depending out your library, I have seen reports of 4-12 GB of Downloads.

The "Problem" with the DVD is waiting for it to get to your address. The "Problem" with the DL is how long it takes online to DL that much data. In the Beta, I wished I had the DL version when I heard people talking about 4.0 for almost a week while my disk was in the mail, but then again, we didn't have anywhere as big of a monster download to get started. We did make up for this over time, however....

Do not fear. Often the indexer hits the reverse interlinears early on which gives a quite inflated figure since they take so long to index. In my last full index I have logged, it took about 6 1/2 hours, but I had time estimates of over 100 hours.

Same issue, all three computers. I even un-hid some resources to force a download of something else. The program successfuly went through that, but as soon as it was done it went back to the same 35.1mb download. I don't know what else to do.

Hi Jerry, I have passed on the logs and the only thing I can say right now is if it is bothersome to disable automatic updates in the program settings until we figure this out. Is anyone else in this loop situation? It could be tied to your account specifically or it could be an update is not being checked off as completed, I'm not sure. I will keep you posted.

I've just looked at your logs, and unfortunately they don't have enough information to help diagnose the problem.

Please follow my earlier instructions to create two sets of log files that cover the entire download, restart, and re-download process:

(We can have tech support help you through this process, but our call wait times are pretty high right now.) After you post your new set of new log files, I will take a look when I am free. (This is the first time I've been able to get back to the forums since I posted yesterday, so it may be another 24 hours or so before I can check again. The more information we can get from the log files, the better, so if you can collect three or four sets using the procedure above, we should really be able to see what's going on.)

Attached are four log files, done at the intervals you have requested. This is not on the machine I was on last night. On this machine, the repeated download is 40.5mb.

I started logging fresh, then created the four sets.

As I typed this reply, it went through the cycle again.

Jerry, I wonder if you might be better off fully installing on one computer first. One aspect of the program is that it will synchronize with your other computers. Without knowing exactly how this works, I'd suspect this could be a part of your problem. But even if this is not the chief cause of your problem it would probably eliminate a variable, making diagnosing simpler.

I assume you mean to delete and start from scratch, correct? I can do that. I was a Beta tester, so perhaps something got corrupted when we had to do the big download last week. This all started over the weekend, maybe on Thursday. I did not think too much about it at first since everything was happening. Now I know there is some issue.

No I didn't mean that, but you're welcome to try anything you want.

What I'm suggesting is that you let L4 finish installing on one computer, before starting the next. If you are able to 'unplug' the other two from their internet connection, that may be enough. My suspicion (based on nothing more than a hunch), is that there's a whole log of syncing going on between the three computers that keeps interrupting the process. The only way to rule that out as a contributing factor is to remove all but one computer from the updating process, until it completes. Then introduce the other two, one at a time.

I'm assuming, of course, that all three computers are using the same Logos log-in. If that's not the case, the whole point is moot.

These log files were great--thank you. It looks like you've found a subtle bug in the program (related to detecting updates for hidden resources). I believe that it's caused by some stale data in one of the data files Logos 4 creates. Please close Logos 4 (and make sure the Indexer isn't running), then delete the following two files:

C:\Documents and Settings\Pastor Jerry\Local Settings\Application Data\Logos4\Data\vu2kh1y2.hay\DownloadManager\DownloadManager.db

C:\Documents and Settings\Pastor Jerry\Local Settings\Application Data\Logos4\Data\vu2kh1y2.hay\UpdateManager\Updates.db

The next time Logos 4 starts up, it should recreate those files automatically when it checks for updates in the background. Since it's creating them from scratch, it should correctly detect the resources that you've hidden and ignore them when downloading updates.

Please let me know if this doesn't fix the problem.

I bought the Platinum Download yesterday, but I'm not having any luck getting my resources.

There was an initial download of 1.3Gb (I think) that was then indexed. That seemed to put 238 books in my library.

Since then, I get constant downloads of 2.3 Mb, and 259.9 Kb with instructions to restart after each one. This has happened about 20 times.

I uninstalled and installed again in a different location. I tried deleting the 2 files as described in the post 2 above this. It then downloaded a 23 Mb file, which I thought was a good sign, but then went straight back into the 2.3Mb and 259.9Kb cycle. I saw a link here last night to a post about turning logs on but the page couldn't be found.

I'm running Windows 7 RC (until my update disc arrives from Microsoft!).

I've not got Logos 4 installed in d:\Logos 4.

Any advice?
