Logos 4 new user experience a bit overwhelming

I just purchased Logos 4. The Logos software is new to me and getting around is confusing even with the tutorials.The features of Logos are awesome, but I am not finding it easy to use yet. I wish it worked more like a traditional website with easier navigation and search, a breadcrumb trail would be nice too as well as a more in-depth help system. I haven't found much help in the things I've been looking for in the help search. I'm thinking I may need to take the classes. I'm hoping it's all here somewhere and I just haven't found the tools yet. I would also like to know if there is an archive of the daily home pages or "newspaper" type screen.

The software seems to run slow. I have 12 Meg cable internet and a new iMac with OS 10.67, 2.8 GHz Intel Core i5, 4GB 1333 MHz DDR3. I and am wondering if there are any compatibility issues.

I am excited to get to know it better and any tips are appreciated. Looking forward to learning more.

Hi Thomas, welcome to the Logos forums, and the Logos "new user experience." You're not alone. Many others have felt overwhelmed before you, and some of us even remember the experience and have lived to tell about it. We are here to help you as you go through the learning curve.

I'd recommend you start out with the excellent series of unofficial Logos tutorial videos done by Mark Barnes. You can find them here: http://www.logos4training.com/ There are 15 of them so far (you'll find them on the Tutorial Videos menu, and he is planning on completing others in the future. Take your time with each one, practice what you learn in the software, and go over the video again a second time. There's so much in this product that it will take you a couple of months to feel like you know the basics, though you should be able to start doing some awesome things with it already from Day 1.

You can get back to a previous place you were in a couple of ways in Logos 4: 1) to return to a particular location in a particular resource, open the History tab (Tools > History, or Cmd+H) and click on the recent place you want to return to. 2) to restore a recent layout with multiple windows open to the way they were before, check the Layout menu (upper right) for a snapshot from around the time when you want to restore to, and click on that.

The daily home page contents are archived and cycled through for a few days. If you press the F5 key (refresh) it will recycle the contents and eventually you'll get through the whole list. Some of the contents from the home page are from the Logos blog which you can see on the web and it will have all the archives all the way back (http://blog.logos.com).

Wiki has Getting Started with Logos page with many Logos 4 tips along with links to excellent unofficial tutorial videos by Pastor Mark Barnes. Logos Wiki has collaborative contributions by many volunteer Logos users that often expands Help information included with Logos 4, e.g. Detailed Search Help

Wiki has Logos 4 Mac overview page. Logos 4 on Mac and PC uses Right Click contextual menus with more options and power than a traditional web site.

Wiki page Mac Troubleshooting has Slow Performance section with many Logos and Mac OS X tips. Running 64-bit kernel in Mac OS X is noticeably faster for many applications, including Logos 4 Mac.

Parts of the Logos Home Page articles are available online. For example, Blog page has searchable archives.

Consulting History is good advice, but in the Mac OS, Cmd-H is system wide for "Hide the current application". It appears that L4 Mac does not yet have a shortcut for History. It can be accessed through the Tools Menu.

Oops, sorry. I just assumed (not doing the Mac OS at all) that it would be the normal equivalent of the keyboard shortcut on Logos 4 Win, which is Ctrl+H.

Just noticed there's a http://wiki.logos.com/Logos_4_Keyboard_Shortcuts_For_Mac. I should have checked there first, and will from now on.

No problem, Rosie. I just did not want Thomas to type Cmd-H and then wonder what happened to Logos.

The Mac OS interleaves windows from open applications. I use Cmd-H extensively to reduce clutter from having multiple applications on the screen at one time. Sometimes, I get a shock when the wrong app disappears because I did not notice that is was the current active one.
