Trouble with Complex Search

There is an interesting point made by Dr. Michael Heiser on a Learn to Use Biblical Greek and Hebrew with Logos Bible Software video. It has to do with Exodus 32:14 . I tried to create a search to find more occurances of what he mentions, but am having trouble.

How do I find: Lord or God (Elohim or YHVH) as SUBJECT connected to a VERB in the Niphal?

I set up a number of searches - some got no results, one got some results and when I tried to refine that one logos crashed twice. Very frustrating

Logos will crash in a Search if the search puts the program into an endless loop, using up all the memory. You can search for discussions on this forum about this, doesn't seem there is much that can be done as the search can determine if a conclusion can be determined until it tries to calculate the search. Hence the crash. Anytime it crashes, modify your search.

I ran this search, see what you think. It returns 101 results. You may want to tweak it some, I did not know where the reference to this issue was in the videos; I just built it based on what you said:

I finally got it to match yours. [only took me ... never mind!]

What I am going for are verses where the Lord / God is the subject of a passive verb in the cases where He is affected or acted upon like in the Exodus 32:14. Here, He is obviously influenced by the (previous) intercession of Moses. Are there other places where this occurs and under what circumstances? - So, what kinds of human initiatves/activities can "move" God? It is this line of thought that got me trying to construct this search. I have to scroll through the results o see if the hits produced address my question.

Ah. You can further restrict the search then to add Voice Passive in the Morph section (2 of them) where the Finite Verb-nifal is set up. That gives 110 results,

You could also look for Divine Nouns and/or Pronouns instead of specific lemmas, to grab some of the "He" constructs. You'll get some clues what to look for by hovering over different data within the pieces of clauses that you like (in A-F Phrase Marker Analysis 0.90 or other), and see what the popup at the bottom of the page shows you.

I made a syntax search just like Dominick's, and I could get some results (96). Now, I remembered that God also regretted to have made Saul a king and I noticed that this text (1 Sam 15:35) did not appear in my search. That is because the predicate there is a participle. However, it is a Niphal! So, I added to the search not only finite verbs but also participles. Then I got 1 Sam 15:35 as well. You can see it in the image below.

That is a very interesting search to do, I will keep working on it because I am trying to learn as much as possible about syntax search.

Thanks for your post. I have been trying to work through these results and have tried several ways of refining the searches.

My latest has only 15 results, but is more what I have been looking for (I think).

BTW - the bottom of the search is basically a mirror of the top. I couldn't get it all in one screen. What do you think?

Thank for sharing your search, it is quite interesting what you have done. I will try to reproduce it as soon as I can (that may not be this weekend!).

I am curious about your 15 results. It is a good number to study each of them and broaden the understanding of what your are searching for. It is a very interesting topic I also want to know more about it.
