Which Package should I take?

I am not a English Navtive Speaker. I'm Korean. I finished M.div. Course.

I really need Logos Bible software. But this program is so expensive.

Which Package should I take? Platinum or Scholar + essential stuffs?

I thought many people replied the best package was Platinum from this Forums.

But, I am not sure Platinum package stuffs will be very useful to me.

For the future, should I take Platinum? Which choice is good for me?

Perhaps, I will be a pastor, who teaches and sermons every week.

Please, Answer me on the assumption that I can afford to buy portfolio. Thank You Smile

I recommend getting at least the base Scholar's package, and then getting individual resources to go with it that suit your needs. I say this because the Scholar's edition and above contain all the program features (if you scroll to the bottom section of the base package comparison page you will see what I mean). Look at the Silver, Gold and Platinum (and Portfolio) listings to see if there are books you can get that would be useful to you, and do a search to see how much it would be to buy those separately. You may find that upgrading to one of those upper packages is best for you - or you may decide it's better to stay with Scholar's and get a separate commentary series to go with it.

My personal recommendations on separate resources:

Commentaries:

Interpretation Commentary Series ($800)

Anchor Yale Bible Commentary Series ($1900)

International Critical Commentary ($1750)

New Interpreter's Bible Commentary ($800) (still in prepub)

Dictionaries:

New Interpreter's Dictionary ($400) (still in prepub)

Anchor Yale Bible Dictionary ($270)

There are plenty of other great resources ... it all depends on what you are looking for.

I will give you a recommendation from someone who considers himself a conservative, evangelical and who puts most of his dollars into resources from that stream. I am also a pastor who preaches and teaches every week.

Scholars Platinum

IVP Essential Reference Collection

New International Commentary on the OT and The New International Commentary on the NT

Anchor Yale Bible Dictionary

Bauer, Danker, Arndt and Gingrich Lexicon (3rd edition)

Hebrew and Aramaic Lexicon of the OT

Baker Exegetical NT Commentary

Black's NT Commentary

The New International Dictionary of NT Theology

The New International Dictionary of OT Theology and Exegesis

The Theological Journal Library collections

And many more. But that is a good start. For me Portfolio isn't compelling, but the resources in Platinum are.

Mark has a nice list that would last you a long time. Personally, I wouldn't buy resources that I could download (typically public domain), until later when I had a few more won (if then).

Observation: Scholar's Platinum includes "Bauer, Danker, Arndt and Gingrich Lexicon (3rd edition)" (BDAG) so Advanced Hebrew Supplement (11 vols.) is a possible expansion that includes "Hebrew and Aramaic Lexicon of the OT" (HALOT).

Scholar's Gold includes UBS Handbooks, wiki has review pages: UBS New Testament Handbook Series and UBS Old Testament Handbook Series

For purchasing new resources, Community Pricing offers best deal. Bid on resources for Logos to prepare for Library use. I would agree with Mark's basic assessment. Platinum is your best bet. I'd recommend getting that and than add as you personally see fit. Mostly depends on how you use Logos and how detailed you need things to be. For example I found the Expositor's Bible Commentary series to be a no-brainer addition to my package.

Good job, learning another language and getting a degree in it!!!! I would have to recommend the porfolio, others will say that other packages are dollars per book cheaper but it will still be your best overall price per book compared to buying them seperately. And with a large collection if you search something new your odds of getting some info on it are much better.
