Copy Location to Notes

I like to use the note feature to take notes of books I'm studying. I tend to copy quotes that stand out to me. How do I copy the location/link of the quote I copy? Using copy location doesn't give me an active link using the copy location then paste commands.

How are you pasting the link? First select the text you wish to act as a link (1), then paste the location into the hyperlink field (2)

That's what I thought I was doing. But I tried it again and now it's working.

Chalk it up as user error.

Perhaps not. I have had a link fail to take now and then.
