Problems with setting email notifications in site profile

I haven't been receiving the Newswire, and so I went to the Notifications page to check on it, and the Newswire check box wasn't checked.  So I checked it and hit Update, but then it came back as unchecked again.

In fact, if I check ALL the notification options, and hit Update, the resulting page looks like this, with the middle five check boxes not checked anymore:

It won't let me check any of those five check boxes.  I can check and uncheck the other four without problems.

Can someone at Logos look into this?  I'm tired of not receiving the Newswire.

I had this same problem.  I know I was signed up for newswire and received it back in April, but not since.  When I tried to re-sign up again today I had the same problem you did.  I also tried signing up from the homepage link.  After a few minutes of frustration I got an email asking to confirm my subscription.  I made the authorization reply as requested and then checked my profile page.  The newswire option was checked.  We'll see whether it 'sticks' this time or not though.

Hmm. I just received a Newswire subscription confirmation, and now I see that all the checkboxes are filled.  Did somebody do something or is there an inordinate delay in updating those settings?

It sounds like there is a User Interface design problem.

I too mhave the same problem. I emailed Logos months and months ago and never got a reply. The site won't let  me sign up for the email notifictions I want. It's frustrating after putting litterally thousands of dollars into their pockets that something like this would go on for so long without gettng fixed.

LOGOS CUSTOMER SUPPORT: Can we at least get an explanation?

    Thanks :-)

I apologize for the issues you've been seeing.  Our mailing list server is fairly slow to respond, especially to updates.  It also sometimes has problems with email addresses that have non-US characters in them.  Jan, I don't know about your particular problem but it might be related.  In the worst case, I can likely sign you up by hand.

Wow Aaron......that was quick! I really didn't expect to hear from you guys :-) I have been trying to sign up for the following forums (I live on Logos 4 every day and love getting the junk mail LOL):

    --Logos NewsWire

    --Academic Interest Group

    --Greek Interest Group

    --Hebrew Interest Group

    --Ancient Languages Interest Group

If you could sign me up for these, I would certainly appreciate it :-)

    God bless!

Looking at your subscriptions, you appear to be subscribed to a handful of our mailing lists. Which lists are you trying to subscribe to (or unsubscribe from) but are unable to?

UPDATE: Aaron beat me to the punch while I was temporarily interrupted writing my response. That said, you can be assured that we're looking into it.

Well, our own internal system will not let me sign you up for those lists.  I am diving into our logs to see if I can figure it out.

    Jan,

You should be setup with the Newswire list and the Hebrew/Greek/Ancient/Academic lists as well.

The main cause is a configuration choice with the list server that set the Hebrew/Greek/Ancient/Academic lists as sublists of the Newswire list. Unsubscribing from Newswire unsubscribes one from the sublists as well. In your case, you had been set as "held due to bad address" on the main Newswire list. In effect, this locked the other Hebrew/Greek/Ancient/Academic lists as they depend on the Newswire list.

Not entirely sure why your address had that status as I didn't see any record of attempts to email you and your other mailing lists with the same address were all in the correct status.

And the configuration choice for these lists were made long before any of the current web team were at Logos so I can't provide the reasoning for this but it does occasionally provide more challenges in dealing with the list interface as has been noted in this thread.

    Chris,

I checked the list server and you should have received several mailings from the Newswire list. A couple of "Last Chance" emails for prepubs and the monthly Newswire mailings as well. The server logs seem to indicate that these should have gone through or at least weren't bounced or rejected back to us.

    Todd,

As I mentioned in the reply to Jan, that behavior is an artifact from a early configuration decision that is occasionally hard to fit into the UI appropriately. We could probably do something to indent the sub lists in the web page, but a longer term goal would be to split these lists out into individual lists as they should be.

Can't say that will happen anytime soon as we have a lot of other interesting projects underway, but it would be worthwhile to look at in the future.

I haven't received any emails (except these forum emails), however, I appreciate the time you took to resolve this problem. I love Logos! You guys rock!

Same problem for me here - I'd like to have all notifications except iPhone Interest Group, Macintosh Interest Group and ProclaimOnline.com, but several boxes stay unchecked after updating. Same thing applies for notification settings on Vyrso!

David I am encountering a similar problem which I found after trying to sign up for the “Free Book of the Month.” When trying to sign up it gave me this error, “You were not subscribed to any lists. Sorry, you have been banned from the mailing list “freebook.” (I wonder if that set a flag that banned me from all the mailing lists)

After trying several things I arrived at the “Notifications” tab of my account, I found all boxes unchecked. When trying to check any of the boxes, I would receive this error, “We could not access your mailing list subscriptions at this time. Please try again later.”

As a side note, recently I wondered why I no longer received pre-pub updates. I chalked it up to the lack of pre-pubs and promptly forgot the issue and did not research that particular problem. Prior to May I had been receiving emails. Somewhere along the line all my selected notifications were unchecked.

    Thanks for the help

    Steve,

I apologize for the delay in getting back to you on this. I have checked and it seems that your email address was rejected in February which has prevented you from signing up for other lists. I have restored your status and you should be able to sign-up for lists within 24 hours. Please check the Notifications tab of your account sometime this weekend to confirm you can sign up for lists.

    Regards.

Thanks for the response.  I check the sign-up this morning my time, all items that I want to sign up for worked except for "Freebies, Contests, Giveaways".

    Thanks

    Steve,

You should be all set. I had to manually change your status on a few of the lists, but they seem to be cleared out now. Please check to make sure you are only on the lists that you would like to be on.

    Regards.

My Pre-Pubs box is unchecked again, and will not update keeping the box checked.
