Bible Notes

I use the "Notes" function a lot on my desktop and would like to have access to those notes and add new ones in church from my itouch (or for those using an iphone/ ipad). Is this something that can be done or in the works. If not it would be a very useful tool and would replace me taking notes on paper and use logos instead. Thank You.

Hi Doug - and welcome to the forums

Work is going on to provide Notes within the iPad app but we have no dates for availability as yet

I am in agreement, this would to be most useful. Especially if I can highlight a passage and click add note just as in the desktop version. In addition I would like to be able to email/export notes from device.

    Thanks

I agree as well. I have to use another iPad bible program to take notes during Sunday morning service. Then transfer them to Logos afterwards. I would rather do "everything" in Logos.

Using an iTouch, this may work for you but obviously you won't have the screen space that iPad offers.

I use the Side by Side w/Dropbox App and Side by Side Pro App ($1.99 iPad App). Side by Side is similar to creating a workspace for Logos but only works for online webpages and not Apps. Since I can't use the Logos App, I log into Biblia.com to access my books. Side by Side will have a template to design your workspace layout. I split the top 1/2 and have Bible and Commentary parallel to each other vertically; I keep the bottom 1/2 for Notes--you can copy/paste from your books in Biblia.com square into Notes. For each book you want to use from Biblia.com you will need to open a square in Side by Side for Biblia.com or copy/paste your url in the square or rectangle box in Side by Side. Remember to scroll up in Biblia.com to access Home, Books, and Search in Side by Side to switch books within the square/rectangle. You can email your Notes to yourself or whoever from within Side by Side or Save to File and open in SuperFilesLite or Quickoffice (could be other Apps but those are the two I use--not sure if it will open in pdf-notes App; if it did that would be great to be able to highlight, etc with pdf-Notes App. If not, email your Notes to yourself, and Save as PDF document then email back to yourself and Open in pdf-notes App--that may work.)

I have both Side by Side Apps because I have one App workspace designed and designated to use the top half to watch videos from LightSource.com various teachers/preachers for our Women's Bible Study, then on the bottom half I split the screen vertically for Bible and Commentary parallel to each other vertically...the top half could be split in half again to open a square for note taking. I close the Side by Side App and that Workspace is there the next time I open the App--I have not found that you can save various workspaces, hence the need and convenience of having both Side by Side Apps, but that does not mean you can't..I just haven't discovered it yet. Design the workspace to whatever suits your needs.

If you decide try Side by Side, please send the Developer a note of encouragment.

This is the link for Side by Side http://leibao.webs.com/Apps_by_Bao_Lei/Side_by_Side.html  either w/Dropbox or Pro

Also, in looking over it late last night, double check but  I thought I saw where the workspace can be saved.

This should be a separate post but could someone tell me how I can post to this using my iPad 2? It brings up the reply box, but no keyboard nor can I copy/paste...seems strange, but I resort to my laptop.

    Bev-

The trick is to click on the HTML icon. It will open another window for you.

Sent from my iPad. (but manually typed by the HTML editor!)

Below is my iPad screen shot.

How did you insert the screen shot? I know what to click to make the screen shot, but how to insert in post.

Also, on my second attempt to post this I touched HTML icon, the new screen was brought up but I could not type any words to show on HTML editor. Tap, tap, tap but nothing appeared! I closed & restarted a few times and now able to post, but I have no idea what magic button to get the words to appear on screen every time.

When using Side by Side and Biblia.com on iPad, choose standard and not mobile view.

,Yes thank you, I read that other Post Topic after Alabama described the HTML icon.

"Side by Side App" allows you to Draw or handwrite in "Files."

If you use "pdf~Notes App" and save Doc in/to that App, then in the lower left use the box with the arrow inside it to open more options and this will enable you to open PDF in Side by Side.

Alabama, I tried the Photo copy/paste, but no success yet. We need more capability than text HTML. We appreciate what our laptops/desktop can do! but would not give up my iPad2!

    Thanks for everyone's help.

Try using "just1word" website http://www.just1word.com/bible/verse/john_1?version=niv  to [:D]highlight your Bible text (you need to use FULL and not mobile as it may switch to mobile automatically on iPad. IF it switches to mobile, there was a FULL towards the bottom to touch to revert back).

You need to create an account at just1word to be able to Highlight and use the other Tabs.

I suggest using "just1word" on your laptop/desktop first to see how it works, then use in the Side by Side App and Biblia.com on your iPad.

There will appear four tabs Comment, Highlight, Share, Compare (see below towards bottom of screen shot); click/touch on Highlight and the four pastel colors to choose from will appear at the bottom (on iPad there is a floating bar with the Tabs, but the highlight colors are on the bottom along with switching Bible translations). Click/touch Highlight Tab, click/touch the verse you want to highlight, choose highlight color, it will give all scrip ref that are highlighted in that color.

I did not like their new improved design so I switched back. You have the option to display an open Bible with pages on both sides or Single column as shown in screen picture below. The icon to switch is the upper right next to the font icon; the icons are faint in color. The Single column moves by

The font icon will only slightly increase on iPad so you need to use the usual finger pinch to enlarge the webpage/font.

To change translation on iPad, scroll to the bottom and touch the translation you want to use. Near the Scripture on the top is bible translation drop down that works on laptop/desktop, but on iPad it will drop down, but not scroll to give you all the translation options but the one you may want to use may appear on the top drop down menu.

Use on laptop/desktop first, then use full screen on iPad to see how it works, then use in Side by Side and I don't think it will be as frustrating to use.

I think this is workable until Logos gets highlighting working.

Oh well, tried it. Thought it might do what I want. But, not yet.

What I would like is to be able to run Logos app and a note-taking app side by side. That would be ideal.

    Perhaps one day...

    Hi Bev,

Thanks for letting us know about this useful app (Side By Side).  I have two questions:

    1) How do you take notes with it?

    2) How do you get it to show a third window section (underneath the two side-by-side windows on the top)?

I'm using Side By Side with Dropbox.

    Thanks!

Remember this only works on Webpages and not splitting Apps.

    How do take Notes?

Create/design your workspace panes/boxes. Now see the "S" inside the circle on the right side? Touch that and it will open options for you with a "W" (web) "N" (notes) "F" (files). Each square/rectangle has this capability.

Touch the "N" and the square will open a blank box for Note taking or copy/paste into Notes. You can email this Note by touching the envelope. Touch "W" and it will go back to your Webpage you had opened, or Touch "F" to make Notes & email it or Touch curved arrow to open in Super Files App or QuickOffice App...could be other Apps, but those are the two I use.

    How to create third window?"

Did you see the templates in the "S" drop down box?

I think I chose the four boxes and then a white circle appears that allows you to change the sizing, I slid it all the way over so there was only one long rectangle box left on the bottom. I kept playing around with templates until what I needed appeared. Once I got it set I didn't want to loose it! If that doesn't work try another template & move the white circle, or contact the Developer & he will let you know, he replied back quickly to me. I was happy to see two Side by Side Apps so I could design two different workspace layouts and it keeps it set after you close the App! at that time I didn't know you could Save workspaces, but I haven't had time to try Saving the workspace yet.

After you touch "S", a box will open, Touch the 'i' in the upper right it will open the Dropbox link.

I tried to copy/paste from "just1word" but once I started highlighting I can't get the copy/paste, so I use the other pane for Biblia.com Bibles and copy/paste from those books/Bibles into Notes.

Hope this helps. Otherwise Touch "S" and the ? Box may have answers for you.

Note taking....Just realized you may have meant how to create a note so it appears in the white Note box if you do not Copy/paste. When your Note opens up to a blank white box page, Touch inside the white box and the keyboard will appear on bottom. Then type and your words will appear.

    Bill,

Yes, the ideal would be opening two Apps or Logos/Bible+ creating an App that has the Side by Side capability. Check out what LifeWay has for one of Beth Moore study Apps http://m.youtube.com/?rdm=4mr2f3rag#/watch?desktop_uri=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6FcR22wSOdg&v=6FcR22wSOdg&gl=US

Did you try "Side by Side" creating a workspace using the two vertical template (Touch "S" inside circle for template options, then move white circle/dot to size panes) and use one side for Biblia.com and the other side for Notes?

Touch the "S" and it will open a box for "W" web "N" notes "F" file. The Notes can be emailed and the same with "F" file. Obviously you won't be using your Logos App, but signing into Biblia.com will let you access your books/Bibles. The other side will be open for Notes...touch inside the white Note box & the keyboard will pop-up OR copy/paste from Biblia.com. Send email to yourself and Save as PDF then resend to open in PDF-notes Appp to highlight, write, etc...I prefer "pdf-notes" App to Cloud, but a matter of personal preference. It would give you the Note capability with your Logos books/Bibles.

Inside the Note box you can touch "W" to open a web page if you wanted two boxes/panes in Side by Side open to Biblia to have Bible on one side and book on other side. Both panes have the ability to take Notes...touch the "S" & choose whatever you want to revert back to your open Biblia book or back yo your Notes.

In "F" files you can write like using pen in Cloud. Tap the white box to the right of black box to access colored pens.

    FYI -

Bob posted this info in the Vyrso forum today:

Highlighting and notes are coming very soon for both the Logos and Vyrso mobile applications. We're presently behind the other mobile eBook readers in that area, but when we release we'll suddenly be miles ahead. :-)

You'll have the power of Logos 4's highlighting and notes, including the graphical highlight styles and the ability to have multiple note files. And, soon, the ability to share your notes and highlights with groups, or the whole world.

This is really exciting. I hope Bob's "very soon" is the same as my "very soon!"

    Happy day for all!
    About time, but not complaining.
Now if Ligos/Bible+ would create the App to have workspace for a web page plus the Logos App that would be my dream come true. Until then I can use Side by Side.

    Bev,

I spent most of yesterday using Side By Side with Chinese scripture on one side and taking notes on the other, studying the life of Abraham in preparation of an upcoming sermon.  Thanks again for introducing us to such a powerful and useful app.  I left 5 stars for it.

    Wonderful, great, fantastic!!

Warms my heart to know the ”work around" helped you until Logos gets it implemented--sounds like it will be soon. When I think about it you may still want to use "Side by Side" after Logos/Bible+ gets Notes on their App because then you can have two App workspaces with different study topics.

Also, the "F" file allows you to write notes with a virtual pen or for drawing a diagram then email if needed.
