Logos 4 Cannot Find Resources

I upgraded from Libronix 3.0f to Logos 4 yesterday.

The download went fine. But Logos 4 cannot find any of my resources.

I've typed "update now" and nothing has happened. The program runs, but it doesn't know where any of the resources are located ("F:\Libronix DLS\Resources").

I also don't see in the Tools menu where you have the option of telling the software where the resources are located.

FWIW, I'm running Windows 7.

    Dale,

Has the program downloaded the new resources (not just the program)? You can use the scan command (scan f:\libronix DLS\Resources) to see if that will help (I'm pretty sure that's the correct syntax). Is there a blue logos icon in your system tray that gives you any information about what the system is doing?

I had the same problem.  Mine began downloading my resources soon after installing Logos 4 (shown by the blue icon in the systray).  I have a little over 1000 resources and it took nine hours for mine to complete.  I did not "see" any resources until this was done..

I had Logos3 opened when I upgraded to Logos4. After starting Logos4, it did not look for my resources.

So I restarted my computer and ran Logos4 again. It's now says "Preparing Your Library. This may take a while..."  A while has already been more than half an hour and it's still at Stage 1 of 3.

I am having a similar problem. No resources. I can "sign in" on the new member page with my old screen name and password, but from there, I can't download the resources I have purchased with my upgrade. Is there another way to access them? but how about logging in through the program? It just doesn't recognize my screen name and password like the web site and other places can. I can log in, just not through the intro screen when I double clicj on the libronix 4.0 icon.

    Ben,

Yes...you're on your way...and just for the record...half an hour isn't a lot by indexing standards...it gets better but the first time is BRUTAL...

    All,

For some reason, the indexing never started. I manually started it and it's running now.

I'll let it run all day and see what happens.

    Thanks for the recommendations!

ok... I am running Windows 7 64 bit. I downloaded the Gold Version of Logos 4 and installed with no problems. It is currently downloading 6.9 gigs worth of resources. I dont want this to happen. I would like to copy my old resources from Logos 3 into the Logos 4 directory. However, I cannot find this directory anywhere!

Logos 3 Dir. is: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Libronix DLS"

    Please help

On of the great features of Logos 4 is that it takes care of file management for you, and automatically keeps all your resources up to date.  That means that every book in your new Gold collection has a new, updated .logos4 version of the resource available, and so Logos 4 will want to get these updates.  Of course you want the NEW stuff.  You also should want some resources which have had their images tagged in the version 4 format (HBD and AEHL are two old ones I am seeing a lot new).

For better or worse, the design of Logos 4 assumes that it will keep everything up to date.  Our only choices are to let it update or turn off the internet and not.  We will not have the fine control over which resources to update anymore.  It is quite a shift in thinking that it took a while for us beta testers to get used to, but near the end I at least am glad I will never have to use the old update tools, and can use Logos for Bible Study instead of file management.

You can try entering "scan C:\Program Files (x86)\Libronix DLS" in the the Logos 4 command bar, then restarting Logos. (That tells it where to look for resources...I'm not sure if your nonstandard LDLS path confused it).

However, Logos 4 downloads replacement versions of a lot of resources (optimized for v4), and that 6.9 gigs could very well be just the new files.

You can order a DVD with the data if you don't want to download.

    OK

    1) Dont manually copy any files into Logos4, it just wont work, plain and simple, pointless excercise

    2) Logos 4 looks at you Logos 3 install during upgrade and pulls in anything it needs

    3) Nothing will show until NEW logos4 resources are downloaded and indexing has completed, (this can take 30mins to start given demands on servers currently) when it starts a blue logos icon near the clock will give you a status update

    4) Be patient

    5) If you do need to use the Scan command RESART YOUT LOGOS4 IMMEDIATELY AFTER YOU TYPE IT IN or nothing, and I mean nothing will happen until you do, then be patient, again it can take 15 mins as it checks the resources before showing any signs of action

Not a problem, I have done all that you have said and now I am on step 4. While I am waiting I have one more question.

Will Logos 4 know about all the other resources I have purchased? Books that are not a part of the gold version?

  • Ken McGuire

It certainly should.  If it doesn't, you should probably synchronize your licenses from 3.0 to the cloud.  When 4.0 then rechecks the cloud automatically, it will add them to 4.0.

I would like to copy my old resources from Logos 3 into the Logos 4 directory. However, I cannot find this directory anywhere!

Assuming Logos4 is running correctly, what happened when it installed was that it looked at your L3 resource directory and your license at the Logos server, compared dates/versions and copied all the resources from the L3 resource directory to its own. The 6.9GB, are the updated resources.

Logos4 will not run well with some older resources. While it should handle L3 resources okay, there are new features in the updated resources that allow L4 to do what it could not do before. Expect more resources to be rebuilt and become available. On the other hand, you're not likely to see an L4 download that big again.

yes, if you have them in v3 should have then in v4, I beleive there are a couple of minor exceptions to that but if you find anything missing, contact logos support.

It could be because the servers are experiencing heavy loads and not always able to serve everyone right away.

    Dominic & Todd,

Thanks for all the great info and feedback.

I have one final question. I've got my Libronix resources on an external harddrive (to save room on my laptop).

Will I have the ability to move the Logos4 resources onto the external harddrive once the download is completed?

    Thanks in advance.

    Joe,

If I installed Logos4 on the external hard drive, would it install all of the files there instead of on my C: drive?

The resource files will install on the same drive as the main program.  I think a few others have tried this, and to my knowledge it should work.  Someone please correct me if I am wrong here.
