Backing UP Logos 4 on Windows 7

I enjoy Logos and it has been a big help in my undergrad work. Now that I will be entering graduate school(God willing) I want to back up my Logos Scholar edition. I have the original CD that it came with, but I have added 600 resources since then. I have some of those on CD, but most of those were downloads from Logos itself. What do I do? I know Logos backs things up but I would like to have something of my own in case something happens to logos. This is a big investment. Thanks for the advice.

No need to backup. Everything is backed up automatically to Logos' servers. If you lose everything on your local computer, all you do is download Logos 4 again from the website, enter your username and password, and like magic all your stuff is back.

On Windows 7, all your Logos files are in %localappdata%\Logos4\

If you want to back everything up, that's the folder to go for. However, you can ignore the following subfolders:

Install
System
Data\{random}\BibleIndex
Data\{random}\LibraryIndex
Data\{random}\ResourceManager\logos

The first two ignore folders are program files, the second three are index files.

If all you want to do is backup your resources, but not your settings, then just backup Data\{random}\ResourceManager\, excluding the logos subfolder.

People have discussed on the forums how to back up your entire Logos library in case Logos the company should some day go out of business. I can't remember what the consensus was, but the method of copying your entire installation to another machine (and then back from that other machine should you need to restore from there) -- Method 1 under http://wiki.logos.com/Quick_Installation_onto_multiple_computers - might work.

The problem would arise if somewhere down the road not only Logos goes out of business but also the standard computing platform we're all using changes to something beyond what Logos had ever envisioned for their software. Then the old software wouldn't run on the new system and we'd all be out of luck.

I figure we'll have some warning before Logos goes out of business (God forbid). In the meantime, I'm not wasting time, energy, or storage to inferiorly back up what Logos does for me.

I would recommend onsite backup. It's already being backed up online by Logos, so it's not really worth the time/trouble in uploading many gigabytes of data.

External USB Hard Drives are cheap and spacious (300 GB to 2 TB or more!) and many have backup software.
