Did I mess up on the indexing?

I left my office yesterday with the download of my upgrade from Scholars Gold v.3 to Scholars Platinum v. 3. When I came into work this morning, the download was finished. Logos 4 launched and I saw a screen that said "Preparing your library". Later I noticed the Blue Logos icon in the taskbar. I saw "calculating time needed", then I saw the time. It started out saying 11 hours 5 minutes. Later it said 39 hours, then was back to 11 hours.

I decided to shut down other apps running, hoping to speed it up. I started the Task Manager, to close applications and processes, and ended several tasks.

The Blue Logos icon in the task bar disappeared. I launched Logos V.4, and for a short time saw a message just under the Home icon that the library was indexing for the first time. That message is no longer there, but my library appears not to be indexed.

What should I do? Do I need to call tech support? I have seen other posts on the forum about not interrupting the indexing.

I have an Intel Core Duo 1.9 with 2 gigs of RAM.

I should have added that according to the Windows Task Manager Logos4Indexer.exe is running, using 130,736 KB of memory, and only 02% of CPU.

The Blue Logos icon in the taskbar is nowhere to be seen, however.

Hi can you post your system specs? The indexer and the blue-icon in the task-bar go hand in hand, it must be present, or something went wrong. You may have to start indexing over, if Logos4Indexer.exe is running in Task manager you will have to close it first.

Honestly David for your package of resources and system you're running it on, those estimated times seem to fall about in the area I remember from others in the Beta testing process. It could go from 11 - 39 - 11 all the way down to 2 hours remaining depending on the "monster" resources it may be indexing. The interlinears are heavy duty indexing....

Usually the blue tray icon should be there, however if it still seems to running and you have the time to let it run, see if it finishes and the updater program leaves the task manager on its own. If you do not have the time, I would suggest forcing the close of the indexer and restarting the program to get it going again...

Hopefully one of the programmers may be able to chime in with better and hopefully quicker advice.

I stopped the Logos4Indexer.exe in the Task Manager, shut everything down, rebooted, then launched Logos 4 again.

My message on the home page "First time indexing underway" reappeared, as did the Blue Logos icon in the taskbar.

When I hover on the blue icon it tells me 25 hr 6 m remaining.

I guess I'll just leave it running all night, and see what happens.

Yes this is probably the best choice, over night when there is most available cpu and lots of time [:)]

Go now to Tools - Program Settings and turn off Automatic Updates until you have finished indexing.

Updates restart indexing as you have discovered.

Before I wondered what benefit this forum was (I used to use the newsgroups). With this Logos 4 rollout, this forum has been very helpful. I've mainl been reading. You are others seem to spend all day on the forum helping those of us who are rookies.

I want my 2nd Logos 4 machine to be my netbook. I teach Advanced Greek, and made many notes to the NA27 text (quizzing notes, explanatory notes), syncing up the note file using Windows Live Mesh. My netbook is an Acer Aspire 1, Atom N20 1.6 GHz, but I only have the 120 GB HD and only 1GB or RAM. I'll definitely wait to receive the DVD before attempting on it. Suggestions?

You're more than welcome.

An extra GB of Ram wouldn't hurt. I don't know what updating the Acer is like but I updated my EEE in about 5 minutes. Then again, my notebook still only has 1 GB and does fine - except during indexing.

You don't need the DVD to install. You can copy the resources from one computer onto an external disk and scan them in on the other.

Leave the little girl alone for a long time. Indexing definitely takes longer on a netbook.

Be aware that v3 notes are not imported into v4. But they have promised that the import function is coming.

I have an Acer Aspire One - upgrading the memory to 2Gb took me less than 5 minutes and has been well worth it. Highly recommended upgrade.You just have to pop a cover off on the bottom of the machine. A small Philips head screwdriver is all that's needed. You'll be left with a 1Gb RAM module - I managed to fit mine into the church laptop which is also an Acer.

The version of the Aspire I have has the mouse buttons below the trackpad. I know that there is another version that has the buttons to the side of the trackpad - I have no experience with that one I'm afraid.

I have the Aspire that has mouse buttons on the side. Unfortunately, mine maxes out at 1.5 GB. When I bought it, I knew it would take 1.5 GB of ram, and planned to upgrade it.

However, there is no easy access port. To upgrade the RAM, you have to take the netbook apart, and even remove the keyboard.

That is something that I could do, but am not too excited about doing.

I just let it index on it all. It tends to take forever, but once it's done, Logos run smoothly. Note that the indexing may cause your computer to be really 'hot', seems like the Logos indexing takes up lots of memory and processing power. Quite a pain.
