ESV or ESV Study Bible

This is probably an age thing with me, but I'm slightly (or mightly) confused as to which one is supposed to have when purchasing the ESV Study Bible notes.

I've the ESV as a translation, so let's say I decide to purchase the Study Bible notes. Will these work with the ESV I presently have now or do I have to buy the ESV Study Bible plus the Study Bible notes?

This is the way I understood it Robert, but it is the "purchase the ESV Study Bible" that threw me for a loop. I thought the latter *might* be something additional again. As I say, I suppose it's this age thing that keeps me from understanding the most simple of sentences. :-}

I'm not Mick, but I find the notes to be helpful enough that I paid an exorbitant amount of money for a dead-tree edition to carry to Church and to teach.

I find them helpful, especially the information in the "Articles and Resources" section. Also the book introductions and the notes are worthwile.

However, I know that the authors and editors proclaim a reformed/calvinistic worldview so I don't take them for the truth, but for a good overview summary of a reformed perspective on the truth. This is something one has to take into account when working with a study bible: most often it caters only to one perspective, and gives you this one explanation and that's it (I'd like to have a Wesley Study Bible to counterbalance ESVSB...). The one study bible I know that does this differently is the NIVSB (which I own in paper, really a steal), that in some places gives the various competing theories and leaves it as that.

You need a HARD DEAD TREE Version to access. Access and code in the Dead Tree Version package. Also adds some Logos books.

I've been using the physical bible for about two years along with the online. Absolutely the single most useful resource I own. It was a no-brainer to add it to Logos, but I resisted the idea since I could always pull up the online resource and still do several times daily. It's approach for me is somewhat different in Logos as it's side by side other resources.

FWIW, despite it's somewhat imposing physical size and weight, I'd say the print ESV Study Bible is an absolutely magnificent achievement. The layout, design, binding and paper are excellent and a fine compliment to the content.

This year, I'm reading through the ESV in Logos & have the ESVSB linked to it--after reading/marking up a chapter, I go back and read the corresponding SB sections. It takes a while each time I change books due to the extra facing material.

I like the ESVSB and have a hard copy in large print (because otherwise the note fonts get very small)--but in Logos I've got so many other resources that they aren't critical. They do have some really nice illustrations--very helpful when trying to picture the Tabernacle, High Priest's Wardrobe, etc.

Bootjack, I think you just need to prioritize (see wiki page for how to do this, or just try from the library) the ESV notes in order to have them come up.

I tested it by closing the ESVSB-notes resource and putting it on the top of my prio list, even above the bibles section. You note that the ESV was still open, but at another location. Then I typed James 4.4 into the command box. The ESVSB-notes immediately opened up - you'll notice that this instance of the resource was invoked directly by my command, not through the ESV linked set, as it doesn't scroll along with ESV like in my last screenshot and doesn't has the small A in its logo icon which identifies the linked set.
