Why prioritize more than one commentary?

If I've got either a single-volume commentary or a series that covers the whole Bible prioritized up within my first 5 Bibles (so that it shows up in the right-click menu), that commentary or commentary series will also be the one that is opened by default in a passage guide, etc.

That being the case, what is the point of putting other commentaries into my priority list? Is there other functionality anywhere that uses anything beyond the first prioritized commentary? Only the top one opens in Passage Guide and there is no section in the right-click menu for commentaries (unless you put one within your top Bibles)...so am I missing or misunderstanding something that makes this beneficial?

I was getting ready to go through my priority list and prioritize my top few commentaries for each book of the Bible, but then realized that there may not be any benefit to that...however the page that explains prioritization recommends prioritizing 5-6 commentaries IIRC.

I can't imagine using Logos without prioritising the majority of my commentaries. It's that important.

When you say "only the top one opens in Passage Guide", I think you mean only the top one opens from the Go box on the Home Page. The list of commentaries in the passage guide lists multiple commentaries in priority order. The other place where this matters a lot is the parallel resources menu, which also lists in priority order, and therefore so also do the left/right arrows when reading a commentary.

One answer to your question is that when you run a passage guide, about six commentaries show up in the commentary section. As your collection grows, you will have some resources you love, some that you use occasionally, and some you would never use. Why should resources that you won't use show up in that collection of six? If you prioritize your collection, you will be more likely to get what you want. Ultimately, that will save you time.

The passage guide is only part of what is run from the Go box (specifically it's the bit in the lefthand column). The other elements in the layout produced from the Go box are not the 'passage guide', but just other resources and tools helpfully positioned and linked.

Oh, sorry, I misunderstood your comment. I knew that the Passage Guide opened a lists of commentaries (though I didn't realize that the list was based on the priorities)...but I thought you were saying that within the layout, there was a way to have more than one commentary open initially. Sorry for the confusion.

Some of my saved layouts have more than one commentary open. When commentary tab has focus in Logos 4, clicking "+" adds a tab with all commentaries containing passage listed in priority order on right side (left side of new tab has varying amount of book covers).

I should have added that the quickest way to achieve this from the Go Box is to double-click the blank space next to the tab of your preferred commentary. That will load up your second most highly prioritised commentary in a new tab. You can keep double-clicking to get even more tabs.
