basic search

Hi all,

When I run a basic search on a particular collection for example Journals collecton, I see that the report shows how many relevant hits their are in a particular article, well ok but if their are many hits the report only displays the the first one, then I have to manually find all the other hits using the find option in the article, this can take a while and in fact if my search was for example (eternal,forever,timeless) NEAR (glory,paradise,heaven) in some articles their can be a lot of hits but how can I use the find box to find the different hits. The report would give me the first one but as has happened their could be hits which do not agree with the first one, so I have to manually scroll down the article to find the highlighted text, this does not seem right.

I had thought that before when I ran a search like this that the report displayed all the hits so that all I had to do was select one, I could be wrong about that though.

I hpoe that makes sense.

I am running the latest beta version.

Thanks Fred for that I do run searches by Title, I just thought that instead of having to scroll through a volume to find the different hits that when I expand a volume in the search report all the hits for that article would be selectable, whereas it is only the first hit in a volume that can be selectable, and when selected it opens that volume and then I have to scroll down to find the rest of the hits, and as I explained when running a search with a lot of different terms it can take some time to find in the volume all of the relevant hits.

Well if thats the way it is that is fine, I was just wondering if I was missing something.

All of the search views will only show each article once, regardless of how many hits there are in it.

In my screen shot you can see I've run a Basic Search for 'fantastic' (mine is sorted by count, but that is really incidental at this point) and the article I've opened has seventeen occurrences of the word fantastic in it (as indicated by the '17x' all the way to the right.)

You can find those occurrences in two ways. By clicking on the article title, that resource will open to the top of the article (clicking on a result will open to that location instead) and then you can manually scroll through to find the results which will be highlighted in that sort of orange-ish color. You can see the first three hits in my example.

Another way is to change the drop-down in the upper right of the panel (where the big arrow is) to 'Search Result' and use the up/down arrows to the right to pop from one to the next that way.

I'm not sure if that exactly answers your question, but it shows a way to find the results without using the Ctrl+F find feature; so I hope it helps you. [:)]

Brilliant Tonya that is exactly what I was looking for, I did not realise that I could select in a given volume the term article which would give me the option to search result, that is exactly what I had in mind, so thank you very much for your help.
