Appropriate Sign-On Feature

Hello

What would you think about the ability to have an Allowed Sign-On Feature for a Spouse? Since the Software is presumably bought by the both of you for the both of You. All unlocked resources available to both parties, In this way avoiding the possibility of something being modified beyond repair And / or having to fumble through all personal modifications of the program by the other user, while still getting to use Logos, in a personal way, for yourself.

Actually, if you read the EULA this assumption is incorrect. However, I do think that Logos should explore dual licensing - perhaps they have.

If you read what Bob has had to say on this, you will not that this is already effectively the case since they construe husband and wife (and even children) to be one user unless they are both involved in ministry and have separate offices.

My original idea included My son and Daughter as well, but I didn't want to push it with the first post. I would like this very much, without the possibility of one of them deleting an entire category of Personalized information/settings. Thus, my Suggestion of sep"a"rate Sign-ons. If they need to, and users don't think it is too wierd, they could ask for personal identification (such as: birth certificates, or something of the like...) If not, and users disagree, PLEASE DO NOT let this forum go to a personal Identification Debate. Lets talk about Constructive ways to make this Possible

I don't have a problem with this, but I think Logos might.

If log-ons could be limited to the use of Logos on a single computer, perhaps Logos would be willing to do this. However if this capability could also be used to create separate installations on separate computers with totally separate personal files (notes, highlighting, etc.), I don't imagine Logos would provide this capability. It would amount to giving two licenses to a single piece of software and the associated resources. Since I don't see how Logos could prevent someone from doing this, I doubt we'll see this implemented.

The work around is to create personal highlighting palates for each user, and to label all files, custom guides, visual filters, etc. with a user ID. This would allow segregation of personal data from one another.

One way users could have most of their customizations kept separate from other family members is to create your own set of Layouts (prefixed with your name to distinguish the ones that are yours), Files (again prefixed with your name), collections (ditto), highlighting palette, and a top level Favorites folder (your name) into which all your own favorites will go.

The only things you couldn't handle this way would be Program Settings and stuff on the Shortcuts bar.

I think Logos might be wary about having multiple logins on the same installation because of how their EULA works -- licensed to one user (with the known loose interpretation for that for couples who are operating as essentially one flesh for the purposes of their Bible study). It could lead to abuse in a setting where multiple people who should have their own copies of Logos have access to one PC and could all log in and share one copy of it (e.g., at a seminary library or church office). And because once you're licensed to use Logos you also have access to it on your mobile device, opening up one installation to multiple logins could essentially lead to people being able to share their copy of Logos with all their friends who have iPhones, iPads or Androids.

There might be some other technological solution possible to help out family members who want separate personalizations, but I'm drawing a blank at the moment.

What about Having Separate "Sign-ons", but the Only thing that changes is the Ability to "Modify" another Users settings? In this way everything will be the same and even viewable to all users involved, Just Un-changable

Aditional Protection : For ease of Implementation Only One Sign-on could be used at a time..So both I and my Wife or son could not be Signed on at the same time. And these sign ons again would only be licensed Primarily under One User, with Immediate Family, sub-User sign-ons. Three of more kids would require additional licenses (at a Discounted rate of course) for each additional child. This is for those that took Gen 1:28 literaly and are trying to re-populate the earth under their Family name (that will be me Lord willing Do I sound like a lawyer yet...? lol

'Just unchangeable' means separate libraries of personal data, viewable by all, but still separate. I see the potential for this to be increased temptation to violate the EULA. Of course it can already be violated under a single logon, there just isn't the segregation of personal data in doing this (multiple staff members in a church for instance violate the EULA when using the same copy of Logos under one user ID but suffer from having highlights, note files, etc. not only viewable, but modifiable by all.). If Logos made it possible to segregate data all hindrances (except, perhaps, the privacy issue) would be eliminated making violation of the EULA even more attractive to some.

Maybe Logos could find a way to license multiple copies of Bibles giving a user a way to highlight and make notes on that Bible without those being mixed in with Bibles licensed to others in the same family, even though used together in one Logos installation. Again, that is beyond the current Logos EULA and might not be possible, but for some families it might provide much of the same benefit of having a shared family Bible reference library while each has his/her own Bible and notebook.
